    Default Wtb: Fj40 / fj45

    As Salam O Aleikum, everyone.

As the title to the thread says, I'm looking for the bodyshell, frame, and papers/vouchers for an FJ40 soft-top or FJ45 hardtop pickup. I need the car to act as a donor for a project that I've been considering for a long time. Engine, transmission, diffs, axles, and mechanicals are NOT required, since the vehicle is going to be rebuilt from the ground upwards. Potential sellers are at liberty to remove all of these things from the vehicle. I would prefer an unbuilt donor car, to minimise on costs. I'm looking to pay no more than 175K for the body, frame and voucher/papers...depending on the condition of the same.

Interested parties can contact me by the following means...

    email: fouad.hafeez@gmail.com
    facebook: www.facebook.com/fouad.hafeez
    SMS only: 0308 5552555

Or simply contact me on this thread, which I'll be visiting frequently.

    Thanks, and cheers!

Ok, this ought to be interesting
All the best. You may want to try the places on GT Road right ahead of the motorway flyover. Tons of vehicle sparked there in all sort of conditions.

    It should be interesting, indeed!

A while ago, I'd planned on building a "Phantom II"...a low-riding, ground-hugging, chopped-dropped, rear wheel drive, high-performance 40/45...with a perhaps a 1UZ / 3UZ engine and a 5/6 speed automatic transmission. Something lightweight and immensely quick; with good brakes and handling, no paint-job (maintaining a patina look), no creature comforts, and stripped down to the bare essentials. Now that the Phantom I is pretty much complete, I think it's time to take the plunge.

I wouldn't mind. Is the vehicle in Karachi, or...?

Thanks. But I think I'll pass, after all. I'd like a V8 in the rat rod I'm planning, which is why I want something without an engine, tranny or drivetrain. And I'm really much more inclined towards an FJ40, anyways. Besides, the cost of transporting your CJ to Pindi would simply add to the overheads.

Best of luck with your sale.

Fouad Bhai, it would perhaps be simpler if you buy an FJ chassis with clean papers. These are available and I think should cost you something like 100-120k. You can add the body parts you require. UZ rat rod seems quite interesting but I would urge you to look into an offroad buggy situation as well, which is not all that different and would perhaps be more practical.

    Sounds like an interesting project...

But I think you need FJ body parts more than its chassis so I suggest that you buy a car chassis and fit FJ body on it, as it might suit your project more. I think this low rider needs to have handling abilities more than anything else.

That's a great idea, Suhaib! Rather than discard parts that you don't need...simply buy the chassis, and add on the the parts that you do need.

On the subject of the Buggy vs Rat Rod, let's do a small analysis of the work both would require...

    Buggy
    a. V8, 4wd gearbox, and transfer case. With a requirement of greater low end torque (e.g., 2UZ)
    b. Suspension lift.
    c. Big tyres, rims, beadlocks.
    d. Roll cage.

    Rat Rod
    a. V8, RWD, no need for transfer case. Perfect for a 1UZ with its bolt-on Tiptronic transmission.
    b. Suspension drop. Channeled body. Shaved roof.
    c. Car tires...not necessarily monstrously large, or outrageously expensive. Perhaps slicks at the rears.
    d. Roll cage can be dispensed with.

That way, it's my belief that building a rat rod might be actually cheaper and easier than building a Baja Buggy / rock crawler. And waisey bhi, Boss...with the FZJ79, the Phantom, and the RR, I'm actually NOT looking to build an extreme off-roader. Just something that would be a nice, novel project.

Not talking about an extreme offroader or a crawler, but a high speed Baja Class 5 / Class 1 type buggy. 29 or 31 inch tires, RWD and rear/mid-engined 1UZ set-up (various possible configurations) . Something that you can show off on the street (fine but limited practical application) as well as race in Cholistan/Jhal/Rohtas (if ever the need/urge arises)..... Just a thought!

Hmmm. Suhaib, I'd forgotten how much of a bad (but good) influence you've always been on me.

So...let me get this straight. You're of the view that 4WD wouldn't be required for rally competitions in Jhal / Cholistan / Rohtas? And what're your views on the gearbox for such a creature? I'm a VERY big fan of the bolt-on automatic transmission that comes with the 1UZ VVTi, by the way.
