    Default FJ 40 engine suggestion

    Hey Guys

A friend of mine is about to buy an auctioned FJ 40. He is going to swap the engine (although I insisted on keeping the original 2F) but any ways its his call. He wants to go for a lighter petrol engine with original automatic transmission and install CNG in it. As for our knowledge, we have 2 options. 3400 cc 5vz or 2700 cc 2TR-Fe (My vote is for 5vz)
Which one is a better option and any other engines that should be considered? Keeping in mind all the important factors

The Jeep will be used for tours etc and occassional light off roading. So nothing hardcore.

Looking forward for expert and Pro opinion.

    Regards

It all depends on the concern for fuel economy.

is CNG feasible in such big engines ? If he wants to use CNG then why bothering with an FJ....buy something light..such as photohar..
Qaiser Pal,I have not failed. But found 1 of 10,000 ways which doesn't work.....Toyota driver "I couldn't repair my brakes,so i made my horn louder"..When i was born i was so surprised that i didn't talked to one and half year..since light travel faster then sound, people appear bright until you hear them speak..If u can't convince them, confuse them

CNG on 4x4 Grab 1KZ-TE with 5speed tranny most economical swap and good light engine gives 8-9kmp/l in city driving. 5VZ is good but i think alteration would be more. Diesel engines are very reliable and economical then petrol if maintained properly. 1KZ-TE also comes with Auto Transmission. Check Shoba Peshawar or Ahata Mithu Khan Rawalpindi.

Economy and 4x4 are 2 different things i still remember my 1HD-T used to give 3-4Kmp/l but it had clocked about 500k kms and its quite mileage. Diesels if properly maintained can last upto million km but depends on how you maintain your ride. Here mechanics know nothing they just mess up everything, they rev cold engine they say radiator me coolant na dalein leak hojayega they say sir pilug aur tarein kabli dalein gari bhagey gi lol with all these. Grab a good diesel engine 1KZ-TE or 2L-T and you're good for atleast 100k kms. 1KZ>2L

Yeah CNG on a 4x4 is the worst thing to do. Any idea how much would 2L cost?

Dont know exactly but it should be 80-90K with tranny. As 1KZ-TE with tranny costs about 130k roughly. Try to get 2L-T but i think its not fair invest little bit more and get 1KZ-TE with 5FWD and ready set go. Else get good 2F its a economical engine can deliver upto 8-9kmp/l.

Swaps are swaps, opinions can vary, but some facts as follows:
    - The 2L is not suitable for an FJ40 in any form. Too small for drivetrain.
    - The 5VZs and TRs are generally quite expensive engines 150K+ with the same conversions costs (if not more) than older swaps.
    - The 1KZ is well suited for FJ40 although I am not sure if a true kabuli piece would be less than 120k or so.
    - The 1UZ is by far the cheapest and best suited engine for the FJ40 drivetrain at around 80k...
    - The 1JZ and 2JZs are also good swaps particularly for touring vehicles as you can probably find parts much easier in remote locations if required. Mileage is 5-6 km per litre from what I have gathered.

1KZ-TE is good for 40 Series. With 5fwd it can be fun to drive but suspension brakes should be upgraded.

1jz is probably the economical option, but it comes with the auto-transmission. What manual 5 speed gear will work best with it for FJ40?

My mechanic suggested me to install 3s engine which is 2000 & 2200 cc but yet it produces more horse power...I though he's just being an a*hole.. but I ended up at: Toyota C engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia .... Can it be installed in FJ40?
Moreover, I was told that some are using 3c turbo diesel in FJ40 abbottabad as well, and it's going well...
Seeing is believing.. but did any of you saw that happening? Just wondering..

Ijz with auto gear box plus 4x4 and Cng is under rear end of car.
Although we have only used few times Cng caz fuel average is good on petrol.
