2nd gen pajero? Are you using original pajero gear and is it bolted on using adaptor plate or what?
After swap how is the reliability heating problems or any other...
Would you recommend it to other pajero owners?

My neighbor is using a 5-door 1st Gen with a 3L, and is pretty satisfied with its performance. I don't know which gearbox is he using though.

Work in progress. L144 coil sprung 3-door Gen 1. 1UZ-FE with Toyota A341E 4-speed auto mated to the original Mitsubishi V5MT1 transfer case via a custom adapter that I had to sell my soul for. Lengthened/shortened propeller shafts. Custom motor mounts, modified headers, custom sump and pickup, custom electronics...

About as difficult a swap as I could ever imagine. Nothing fits, and yet I'm doing it.

A friend has recently done his late Gen II with a 1UZ vvti (engine and gear) coupled onto the Mitsu transfer case. It originally had a GDI engine which the guy struggled with for about 1 year running pillar to post but he could not get it fixed. Although it was some amount of work getting everything neat, clean and tidy, the engine suits the car very well and runs very strong MA.

Well, I had no idea that it will become such a headache. While doing the swap, I have learnt that the body is asymmetrical. The only way to realistically route the exhaust out while keeping the 4WD intact is to cross the exhaust over from the passenger side to the driver side under the bellhousing (heatwrap is a must there). Worked on putting the rear gearbox mount crossmember (obviously the original mounts for the cross member aren't doing anything), and cut out templates for the sump.

and the 4x4 doesnt work on this one.....unless he has fixed it SK....

i have yet to see a sound cross swap that one would consider worth dependale to be put into a rally field. for a day to day run it is pretty much doable and has been done by many.

This one was actually a pretty neat and clean job as the chap put in a lot of time and effort getting things right. The 4x4 was working though I did not test it during my short test drive. The V8 seems to sit in well with the LWB Gen II and an uninformed person will have difficulty figuring out that the car has been converted.

As for rally conversions, I would think that these would actually be a bit easier / less painful than street conversions as you don't necessarily have the cosmetics to worry about and the focus is on functionality. I don't think a good Toyota / Pajero conversion would be unreliable as such on the rally field though anything can happen to any car out there as even stock Pajero engines can give up.

Anas Khakwani's 3UZ Evo is one successful case where though it had some minor belt issues at midpoint, it was reportedly running within a few minutes of the Tacoma. I understand Anas (and Ronnie) are quite satisfied with their 3UZ transplants and we will see much more cross breed rally action with Anas 3UZ and Qasim's 2JZ Evos.
