The most common ones are Gabriel "coil overload spring" shocks. I found a good second hand pair once in Rawalpindi for PKR 3000 or so, but nevertheless these are rare sightings around here.

Just a bit off topic. In these shocks, is the spring portion on top or down the shock? Or it can be fixed both ways.

And in these pics the rod is in the bottom. So are both ok or what's the preference?

This is purely for the russian UAZ. It initially had a stock light weight petrol engine in it. Now as it has a heavy 3L and i have measured the height from the front of the veh, it is a bit lowered now (as compared to my ex UAZ vehicles). Means around 1.5" low. It has restricted the upper travel of the tube. So i just want to raise it a bit and i think these coil overs will work. Also with a heavy engine, the nose is down and since it has a very soft front suspension (coil springs), at times it becomes difficult to control the veh, especially on a sudden brake.
