    Default Prado 3Door LJ- engine swap 2L-TE to 1KD-FT / 5VZ

    Salam!

Usually 1KZ is considered a practical option for engine swap in 2L/3L prados. Now we all know that 1KZ with all its positive factors is very fuel thirsty, so
My question is that is possible to fit a 1KD into 3 door prado?

How is 5VZ (v6 petrol) for an LJ SX? Can a 2L-TE be replaced with 5VZ?

How are 1kd and 5vz engines fuel consumption vise?

    Thanks!

i would suggest 1KZ for lj if you can afford diesel.
i have swaped 5vz in lj and i am fully satisfied.5vz is more then enough for lj power wise.
dont have any information about 1kd.

    Thanks kamran!
I'm inclined towards 5VZ but I'm not sure about the fuel consumption.
Did you swap it in a swb lj7* ?
    Whats the fuel consumption like?
Is it a straight conversion or alteration?

5vz is a good option and cheap too if compared with others.
i swaped it in swb 3 door lj70.orignal was 2L engine.
fuel consumption is 7 and 8 and if you drive roughly it comes down to 5 and 6km/l.
its not straight conversion you need some modification but thats not that much complex.
why dont you share your lj pics?

I have a 2Lt in my LWB prado 91, gives me 6.5-8.5 per lit depending upon the shifting and of course, how you paddle the accelerator. That makes 5vz a strong candidate if considered a swap. The fuel consumption is reasonable given the power of the engine(it's a 6 cylinder engine whereas 1kz is 4). It's Petrol.

You can also consider 1jz 3.0 lit supra engine. It is cheaper than the kz and vz engines, and gives reasonable power the rig. Can't comment on the alteration techniques though. I'm sure it's nothing a qabil mistry can't handle.

1KD will give good fuel economy, but it is difficult to maintain in Pak due to low quality of diesel. Common rail engines require clean fuel with low sulphur content. Injectors get worn out quickly.

1KD & 2KD are the best choices if you want to stay diesel .
Fuel average of KD series is way better than 1Kz ones .
Or you can fit a 5L EFI version as well if want to make life simple .

    hmmmmmmmmm

Imran how difficult or easy 1KD or 2KD is to hook in terms of electronics and wiring, keeping in view the electronic throttle and the immobilizer issues

1KZ is heavy on fuel but it can perform better than a 5L-E.

5L-E will deliver a good millage....

Salu bhai there is a huge difference between hj/hzj/bj/fzj and lj/kzj frames. Leafspring ones can take all the heavy engines while the later swbs are considered light duty 4wds.

Hameed brother it's not difficult to wire the KD series at all .
Here one can get a complete harness loom as well .
Most of the 1KD having turbo timers as well and delivering very good average as well .

Best option is to put a 1KD-FTV

or the minimum you can go with a 5L or 1KZ..

these are the easiest swaps if you want to stay diesel.

To me it's a bit underpowered and engine head crashes due to heatup.

my recommendation's are for 1KD-FTV the fuel economy with auto transmission is above 12 on highway's and 8-10 in local's. 5VZ is a little heavier on fuel like 1KZ 5-6 in local and 8-9 max on highway's so go for the 1KD-FTV newer gen engine's easily available and yet easy to wire up and it will be pleasure and fun to drive.
