    Default Advice/suggestion regarding SUV/4x4

    Assalamu alaikum

I am considering buying a SUV/4x4 and would really like some advice.
Basically,I want a vehicle which I can drive to far flung areas where there are no proper roads.I am not into serious offroading as a hobby but I want my vehicle to be a fairly good and sturdy offroader as to travel in rough areas.
I was considering Pajero,Toyota surf, Prado,

    Here are the requirements:
1)Ideally should not be older than 1999-2000 model. I think my budget allows uptill 2005,2006 models.
    2) Very Durable and reliable, should not give problems and should not require much maintenance. (keep in mind I travel to remote areas where a mechanic might not be available).
    3)Manual transmission and diesel.
4)Should not give problems if driven for long distances in very hot and cold weather.(I heard that Pajero has issues when driven in hot weather for long periods.)
5)Does NOT have to be very comfortable or "nice-looking" or stylish interior.
6)Should be good for driving in sand in desert areas of Southern KPK eg lakki marwat, dera ismail khan.
    7)Overall a good off-roader.

    Thanks.

2006 model equals to 60 lacs or more and assuming this is the case you will never find a Manual version. I think you will have to settle for Zero meter Mabnual Vigo

Sir jee, what do you say, how would the Vigo fare in a desert sandy area?
And I am sure its very reliable and sturdy.

Go for brand new Vigo. At least when something gives up, you can claim it on the warranty.

Btw- New shape Pajero would've been awesome though. Or Mitsubishi L200 animal. Omigod!!!

Faiz Aslam sb, whats your take on a 2004/2005 Nissan Patrol? You can get that within 40 lacs.

SURF is a best SUV if you aren't looking for something too lavish.

The requirements and the areas where you are planing to use the vehicle makes me say, either come down to a lower model or change your locality. Lol.

Since the areas are going to remain the same, I will suggest you buy a surf 1996-2000 model.
Recent models are more electrical and tricky. They will give you problems in those areas and finding a manual is almost next to impossible.
Keeping an upper model vehicle in sandy areas is difficult to maintain. Sand makes its way in the most Impossible areas of the car

Its a great vehicle but depends on its condition since its second hand and if aomething big is wrong you will have parts problem and not every mechanic will be able to fix it.

the area Op is talking about might not be able to even Fix a corolla... so even a corolla will be a problem. But the point is if he buys a good vehicle which might not break up at such places.
Secondly even these surfs are tricky ones.... but you can find one in great shape under around 25..
Its better then a Vigo I guess.

Friends,I must thank you all for your valuable input before I move on.
Now the contest is between a 2004/2005 Nissan Patrol(good condition) and a Surf(as new as I can get in 40 lacs).
Which one of these two is more reliable, durable, has less chance of breaking down, more suitable for driving in very hot and very cold weather?

Both, but Surf is pretty used-to with mechanics rather than PATROL, and also parts of surf will be less hassle as compared to Patrol.

In 40 lacs, what is the latest model of a good-conditionSurf I can get? And is it available in manual transmission?
