Default Comparison between Prado and Land Cruiser.

    Asalamo alaikum
As it is known that Toyota vehicles in general, and the Land Cruiser in particular, is renowned for its durability, reliability and invincibility.
It is known as an unbreakable vehicle in any harsh condition.
As an amateur in this department,my question to you all is that does the Prado also have the above mentioned qualities. And in a greater or lesser degree than the Land Cruiser?
What difference in performance will there be between a 2001-2002 Prado and a 1999-2000 Land Cruiser?

Comparing these two is like Comparing Mehran with Cultus.

The Prado is the Mehran,I guess?
But I was talking in terms of general reliability, robustness and durability and whether Prado requires more or less maintenance than the Land Cruiser?
BTW I am referring to 2002 Prado and 2000 Land Cruiser.

Brother, a more detailed comparison would be welcome
How does the Prado fare against nissan patrol, pajero etc.
The Cruiser owns them but what about Prado?

    there is no comparison really
the prado is an ok built car
but the land cruiser is an extremely well built vehicle. . it just cannot be compared to a prado.
the LC is expensive to maintain and service but it is sort of a land tank, it will be expensive but these things keep on running forever.

prado will purr along nicely if well maintained, it is a reliable vehicle too but the LC is like 5 steps better in every aspect.

I would recommend you to find a good condition well maintained Landcruiser as it will be your first jeep.

Also elaborate your purpose first, i.e. offroading, northern areas trips, city driving, daily runner etc.

    Prado

1KD(2000-2002) is not suitable for the high sulphur diesel available in Paksitan, 3RZFE i.e. 2700 cc is way underpower specially if you plan to but 5 dr Prado the only option remains is 5VZFE i.e. 3400 cc petrol.

1KZ(96-99) is fuel thirsty although it suits our local diesel but gives 5-6 km/l in city and 8-8.5 km/l max.

Landcruiser having 4200cc diesel engines gives you alost the same mileage if you get a part time 4wd.

    For example:

I know a very clean LC80, and its not JDM Import rather its Zero Meter Indus Import very rare to find but the good thing is that its part time 4wd, 95% of LC80 are full time 4wd bit heavy on fuel, its also 5 speed manual, its fully equipped with cool box, dual fuel tanks of 135 litres deisel for long travel, sunroof, 7 seater, dual AC, VX trim, in short its something every offroader love to have as its combination of solid axles rigidity with all the modern facilities and comfort of coil springs. The owner sold it for 22 to his best friend and then retreived and has now ordered an Ironman lift kit for it and it is his daily driven vehicle, he gets 7-7.5km/l in city and 9 on motorway @ 100-110km/h due to part time 4wd and manual transmission, What I mean to say a good and well maintained SUV will cost you above average priced SUV in the market.

The problem while searching for jeeps is that you will find mostly tempered vehicles either body change or book of some other auctioned vehicle etc. try to avoid auctioned vehicles as most of them are tempered or atleast abused and fully sprayed.

What I did is I made search and understood how to decode VIN (Vehicle identification number) or in layman terminology biscuit plate. Although its some what tedious job to understand but if you can do it chances of getting cheated will reduce considerably.

Also you can go through this page having all the specs of 100 series:

Sir,what an explanation! Thanks a lot.
This LC 80 which you are talking about, which year's is it?
How about the LC 100,a 1999-2000 model?I really like that and my budget allows for it.
    And the 105 series LC?

Prado is easy to handle if ur driving it as a city car, narrow streets , rush up etc , and a gud offroader as well , the landcruiser is special class, more roam in seats , extreme offroad durability , I myself own 3400 prado 99' it suits me for the purpose of 7 seater, long journey's , and city driving ,

A Prado will do same thing a cruiser does. Prado's are actually better off road due their narrower body. The only difference between the Prado and Cruiser is the latter is bigger and wider. But saying a cruiser is better at everything compared to the Prado, I find that funny.

prado has a towing capacity of about 2200 kg while the LCs is about 3500 kg

the main reason behind this huge difference is the build quality, from the birfield joints / hubs to the huge *** diffs to the 'bus' transmissions to the frame build and quality.. the overall package is quite a lot better than a prado

    Brother,
What you are saying is that there is a difference in a LC and a Prado. Of course their is.
What i am saying is either one can go to a bog and come out of it like either of the other.

You guys have been a tremendous help to me.
One thing I would like to ask:
If I get a 2000-2001 model LC 105,or for that matter LC 100, it is already going to be 13-14 years old as of 2014. If the vehicle is in good condition, how long do you think it will continue to serve me further, apart from the 13-14 yers it has already been running?

    I was talking about LC80 1995 model.
LC100 is always my dream SUV specially amazon without extended bumpers and fancy things.
I was of the opinion that LC100may not bear hardcore offroading but I really got surprised by its performence on our trip to Lawa, see this thread:
