Default Introducing my Hilux Tiger 2003

    My dear 4x4 brothers,

As some of you may know I sold my 1992 TLC 80 Series a few months back. Was a great rig and I enjoyed it to the max with not just IJC offroading, but also as a daily drive. However, feeding the 1FZ-FE on a daily basis VS the practicality card and after a lot of family pressure, I had to sell it.

I now own a 2003 Hilux Tiger (Thai model) and I must confess, I am thoroughly enjoying it. The practical aspect is one thing, the fuel economy as opposed to the thirsty 1FZ-FE...lets just say my eyes are no longer constantly fixated on the fuel gauge We ALL know how that feels! Now the Hilux is no Land Cruiser in terms of comfort, this is something I felt instantly when I sat in it on Day 1. The TLC seats and suspension are way easier on the lower back as compared to this wild horse. But there is something about the Tiger that takes me back to the feeling I had when I owned the TLC 60 Series...A rough n tough wild work horse! Practical as hell and good on fuel, maintenance and overall just easy to keep for a long time. Plus, my 3 dogs love the open air of the daalla

Other than that, this Hilux Tiger although originally a D4D with 1KD engine, was swapped with a 1KZ-Turbo by the previous owner for the reason of our super sulphur ridden diesel that kills the 1KD over time (unless you change the nozzles every 50,000 kms or so, for over Rs.80,000!)

So let the pix roll and I will explain details and upgrades planned along the way....enjoy!

@jadoon1992_vxlimited Thank you for your kind words brother. Always a pleasure working on these machines and bringing them up to their full potential.

I got an offer for my Tiger, but for now I think I will keep it for a while longer and enjoy it. Its practicality and usefulness is surely reason enough to be a keeper.

Buddy from my experience, a clean Tiger 2003-04 model should cost you somewhere between 15-17 lakhs. The ones in moderate condition can cost you as low as 11 lakhs or less depending on how dismal the condition might be.

The color has not worn out bro. That part of the frame was never painted because previously it had the original bumper on it that was covering that section. Its a quick fix that I have to take some time out for.

    Default Operation: Clean Scene

Yesterday was cold and cloudy Sunday in Islamabad.
So what better way to spend the day than cleaning your toy?
Armed with an arsenal of my favorite cleaning tools and a little bit of naturally induced OCD, the Tiger was up for some serious pampering

Meguiar's products always have a great finish that lasts days.
Those of you who own/owned black colored rigs would know how hard it is to keep them clean.

Took about 3 hours cleaning this rig inside out, but was worth the effort and time well spent.

After I was done, I just sat there in my driveway and my family asked me: Are we going to take it for a drive now?
To which I replied: Hell NO! I dont want to get it dirty again :p

@hayzin Brother you have got a beauty. Gotta ask you some things about this rig you got,,
Yours is an automatic transmission. Is it possible to get a Tiger in manual? A newer one not older than 07-08 model.
Secondly, considering that you are an offroader ,I would like to ask how is your truck's grip when climbing on a steep slope?
Thirdly and lastly, how is the stability of this rig? When driving at a high motorway speed?

    @javedikhan1

    Thank you Sir.

Yes there are Tigers with manual tranny.

Newer models are Vigos (2004/5 onwards) not Tigers(2000-04) and yes they do also come in manual transmission.

Grip is excellent for offroad. The Mud Terrain tyres are ideal for almost any kind of terrain, provided you deflate them for snow and sand.

No issues with stablility. However after 100km/hr, I would recommend having a set of All Terrain (AT) or HT tyres for better road grip for daily/highway driving.

All Hilux models owing to their light weight can be tricky at high speeds which is why it recommended to have sand bags or any other weight at the rear for better handling at high speeds.

Thanks for the detailed info buddy,
I do know the Vigo offcourse,I had the misconception that all Hiluxes from Thailand are called Tiger regardless of model.
However,to the best of my knowledge the Vigos we have here are Japanese made not thailand. I guess I am right?
How would you compare the Japanese with the Thai?

You are right, Tiger is Thai specific but only models from 2000 to 2004 as per my knowledge.
