Default Pajero specialist required in karachi.

Dear all, i am facing some engine problem in my 1990 pajero, (4d56). The engine is weak, consuming oil, underpower, and giving poor milage. I wish to get it overhauled, but i need some realy good mechanic for this job, as i dont trust unknown mechanics who only do experiments on it.

Experts suggestion and help is highly and urgently needed in this regard.

Swap the engine with qabli from your local scrap yard. They give you around 2 years guarantee will cost you around 1.25 lacs. Its not worth to overhaul a 4d56 in my opinion.

By the way check turbo first for oil reducing issue. check the blow from oil gauge on idle. Then conclude that it needs overhaul or there is some other reason

I also own a 4d56 equipped vehicle. Do mention which version is it, Is it intercooled or not?

changing the engine is best solution. Rebuild will cost a lot plus not that reliable as genuine. A genuine diesel engine sounds like a petrol after a highway run of 100kms. But a rebuild engine ruins your journey due to terrible roaring sound.
its not that rebuild is a bad option. We dun have qualified mechanic who are able to do good.

My opinion is to go for a swap. If my pajero motor dies, i will surely go for a swap.
    Rebuild a big no

Else seniors will help you out

@patroler am tagging here @Libra @baigaqeel they know reasonable guys for diesel engine rebuilds, in Karachi. have some patience & wait for their suggestion(s).

swapping with a yard engine is high gamble and shall be done as last resort which however end in vehicle disposal and money wasted

i have old mechanics in karachi, who swap 5-10 engines daily. Recently my pajero's engine was also blown(4d56 turbo). But my mechanics don't advice to swap the same diesel 4d56 in pajero, instead they suggested me to swap a Toyota 3S OR 5VZ for pajero, they say its better in long run + fuel economical with great power n performance.

    @patroler

Sir you may try TIME AUTOS, or may go for the inspection or just for idea, i think Naeemullah namely person is there he may guide you in a good way, and he is also very much experienced person, its near bahadurabad, C.P Barar Society, you are coming from Hasan Square, after crossing purani sabzi mandi, there is a double road going straight to main bahadurabad (not the aga khan road, just after that), this shop is on the first round about of that road.

Swap is best idea, repairing a 24 year old engine is not a wise decision. Even after rebuilding it will require work.

You can start the engine at the workshop before swapping, i personally seen a halfcut iwth 4d56 in bilal gunj, with 72k km on meter. The engine was shinning like a new vehicle in show room.

This is not a gamble because they allow you to start check the engine for blows and sounds etc.

Its a much wise idea to swap the engine. i seen many persons who overhauled !kz 4d56 4m40 etc engines are facing heating and terrible sound issues.

A diesel engine is as smooth as butter till its not opened, once overhauled it sounds like a rocket truck.

3s is not an engine built for SUV. Its a disaster in jeep. You will have to drive in lowest possible gear otherwise it will start knocking. So no option for 3s.

The 4d56 is the best possible option for your SUV. It will cost you in less then one lac with adjusting your engine.

If you go for an overhaul, it will surely cost you around 1 lac rupees even more.

I suggest you to go for a 4d56 intercooled turbo engine. It will give you a consumption of 10 plus per liter in city, on long obviously more. I am a satisfied owner of an mk2 pajero with this engine.

I use to have some hardcore offroad too, it never dies anywhere

It Depends On Market Situation...If You Can Find A Good Condition Same Motor Or Not...Would Not Suggest A Swap But Only A replacement With Same Model.....! Not To Mention Swap in SUV's Are No JOKE And That's Also Changing With Completely Diff Thing.....Yes...Only In Case If You Have So Much Of Everything To Spend And Yet Can Walk Out In End Getting Failed Too .. Then You Can Do...Else I Would Recommend To Sale In That Case..

So 1st Option Is Look For Same Replacement Motor.....If Not Then Throughly Check And Inspect Motor Before Rebuild...Not Just Like Rings Daldo And It Will Be Good As New..... B.S Get It Properly C.R Tested Before Jumping Into Rebuild...Source OEM Parts Of Replacement 1st And Most Imp Of All...A GOOD Mechanic Who can Rebuild It Properly ...

@OP please refer to @Xulfiqar 's thread "Diesel Engine Health". You will be able to determine for yourself whether your engine is blown or not. Moreover, 4D56 consumes oil only if the Turbo is shot. Please have a look at it. White smoke is indicative of a weak turbo as per my knowledge.
