Default Suggest an SUV within 1 to 1.2 million Rs in Lahore

    Dear All

my prime mover is honda civic 2014 but its my dream to have a SUV in Pakistan, unfortunately the options available in new are either very high in price tag, cant be your daily runner. what SUV second hand do you suggest:

    1. price range is 10 to 12 lakh
    2. only intend to drive on weekends, for northern trips
    3. not take more than 5000 Rs / month maint cost
    4. Auto transmission
    5. original engine and transmission

I personally like Pajero 3 door but dont know how heavy it is on maint. Need specific model suggestions from experts/ users.

I would love to hear from the owners who bought for the same purpose as i intend to buy....

Everyone wants an suv these day this explains recent price hike. Well only reasonable normal SUV you can get is suzuki jimny. Rest every other 4x4 in 1.2 million budget will drive you crazy and its drive will be total S HIT.

SUV or sports utility vehicle is not that difficult to find in 1.2million.

Its the goodies that we as daily drivers try to 'hunt' in a JEEP / an offroader / or an SUV.

Which is not going to happen, so forget about few luxuries and the options are wider.

    Starting with options, the best to buy in market are;
    1) Suzuki (Sierra, jimny, vitara, SJ410 or even a potohar). Lovely little pocket rockets. Great fun when comes to basic offroading of sand, mudd and slight hill topping. Easer to maintain, park and dig out if get stuck.

    2) Toyota (FJ, CJ, BJ and even older versions of hilux, surf). Beautiful engines if properly maintained and can run longer miles. Great manuevering fun at sand, mudd and hill tops. But and thats with a big BUTT, these are all 'monsters' or in desi mechanic language called 'mudda'. Require regular maintenance. Will be difficult to dig out on your own if get stuck. Heavier on fuel. Great fun if 4-5 people want to join in but for a couple or a family it often causes unwanted issues for "car drivers turning to jeep drivers". But if you are use to minor leaks, tweeking sounds, throttle issues, dry oil sumps, clutch plate slipping, hose pipe leaks etc then there is no alternative to a TOYOTA.

    3) Honestly , there is no other option to explore in brands for Pakistan. You may find land rovers, jeep and few other brands but these are a big no no for a week ender fun. You will spend hours in mechanic shops than duning, or mud bashing.

    Enjoy!!.

@BornToRide, several times I have observed that SJ410 is prefered over Potohar, like you too expressed your opinion in these words
"SJ410 or even a potohar" which is leading to built an understanding that SJ410 is better than Potohar.
Can you please explain it further like what parameters make SJ40 better than Potohar?

@umarxe, i have not explicitly mentioned SJ410 better than a Potohar.

for the subject in this thread, both vehicles have same reasons to be a choice with equal parametres.
For general discussion, if SJ 410 is preferred over potohar, it may only be for looks as very few people in this category would buy the jeep being long chasis or soft top. For me as a user, both are equally good for the purpose.

    cheers

Sir get a three door Prado 2.4 1990 - 1994 with sound engine, or Surf 1990 - 1995. You can also go for a 1KZ engine (3000cc) in case diesel is not that big an issue and given that the jeep is available in 1Kz engine. Given the highway conditions of Pakistan and the long distances that you will be hauling I will suggest that you go for a bigger than Jimny and Suzuki jeeps. These two categories have parts easily available and the mechanics are familiar with the engines too. I just bought a Prado three door 1990, had all the four tires replaced with 2014 Yokohama tires, all the fluids changed, the timing belt, the front suspension, brakes, shocks, had the mechanic examine the turbo and the diesel pump, in other words got her up and about with little effort and fun. I have been to Kutton on her recently and have been to Faisalabad already with kids and wife without any incident. She is my daily runner as I can't ever imagine driving a car (its a jeep thing, LOL). I kept her between 100-120 Km/Hr and she gave me very good average. I also went ahead and had all the hoses(pipes) changed just in case. The jeep had a fairly goods engine and the jeep was registered in 2007 in Lahore. You can easily get a good condition one for between 10- 11 lakh. Bear in mind that these are old vehicles and will make you go to the mechanic for basic up keeping. The maintenance is easy too the oil filters are 390rs guard, and the air filter is for 450rs, and you are good for 3000kms. It takes 6-7 litters of oil I use delo Gold which is 18-1900rs for 4 litters. Rest 2.4 engine is a very good engine power wise and poick up wise. It is also easy to maintain. All Hi aces, Surfs, and Dalla's have this engine in Pakistan. I hope this will help yopu a little. best regards RY

go for a mercedes unimog and really enjoy the hell out of the weekends!!

but on a serious note, it virtually requires no maintenance at all, is pretty fuel efficient and the daddy of all suv's in pakistan (they're registered as pick ups here so technically suv's)

If you can increase the budget 3-5 lac you can buy a new FAW sirius (nearly 15 lac +-) or FAW sirius grand (17 lac +-).... It is seven seater with 1500cc engine. If you are buying it for fun and resale is not an issue then it's a good deal and you get 60k kms in Warranty so piece of mind.
Alternatively you can buy any old suv (surf, fj 40 etc) in 7-8 lac and then you can make it new by using your 4-5 lac....(engine swap, repaint etc.....)

Buddy unimogs top speed is probably not more than 50-60 km/h,so you can imagine how long it would take him to go from lahore to northern areas on weekends.
