Default Suggest an SUV within 1 to 1.2 million Rs in Lahore

    Dear All

my prime mover is honda civic 2014 but its my dream to have a SUV in Pakistan, unfortunately the options available in new are either very high in price tag, cant be your daily runner. what SUV second hand do you suggest:

    1. price range is 10 to 12 lakh
    2. only intend to drive on weekends, for northern trips
    3. not take more than 5000 Rs / month maint cost
    4. Auto transmission
    5. original engine and transmission

I personally like Pajero 3 door but dont know how heavy it is on maint. Need specific model suggestions from experts/ users.

I would love to hear from the owners who bought for the same purpose as i intend to buy....

What I did when I was looking for an SUV is just bought the first one which I liked. Spent some time and money to bring it to desired condition and never looked back. It is my daily driver for the last 10 months, my family vehicle for excursions and village trips, the preferred vehicle for hunting trips and stag voyages and so on. It has never let me down Masha Allah.

    Dear Brother,

I am in two minds now:

    1. Keep my civic and buy some 1 million SUV (prado, pajero, mini or else good enough as per market)

    2. Keep my civic and wait for one year to see the results of Honda Vezel in Pakistan, later after one year sell my civic and buy Honda Vezel in arround 3 to 3.5 million

correct me if i am doing some thing odd :-)

It's a 1993 2.5L Pajero. Bought it for a little above One Million, everyone suggested it was priced high which I tend to agree now as I couldn't get an offer better than 9.5 lakh when I tried selling it lol.

I had the shock absorbers and some other suspension parts replaced the next day I bought it. Some other one time jobs were performed and that is it.

It gives me 8.5-9 kmpl in city as a daily drive, but my 50km round trip is almost congestion free. Have got 10-11kmpl on long hauls. Speed cannot exceed 100kmph being the only disadvantage that I have faced.

I have the advantage of close proximity to my mechanic who takes a look at my Pajero every now and then. Other than the one time jobs, I once had alternator break down which had to be replaced, once a seal in differential blew which was taken care of before it could cause damage, oil pressure sensor replacement, a couple of belts (fan and alternator ones), one time each the clutch master and slave cylinders leaked etc etc. Never faced a break down which might have resulted in heavy cash outflow, again I feel I am lucky.

@dogars and other pajero owners and expert

if i opt for a Pajero intercooler 1995~96 model auto trany, what worst cost i need to incur if:

    1. i need to repair the engine (completely)
    2. replace auto trany from bilal ganj
    3. tyre change
    4. suspension repair

as i am sort of "Wehmi" and will always be nervous to take it on long routes till i get 100%

i am asking also so i may keep in mind the worst.

    Engine Rebuild 100-125k
Auto tranny from BG adjusting your old one 80-120K
    Suspension 30-40K
    Tyres 70K min.

It will never be 100% so you rather drop the idea :p kidding

@Abd008 Let me be very clear here this 4X4 stuff is not very simple. You will have to spend time in grange once a month to get the right performance from your vehicle. If you are ready for it go ahead and start looking for a vehicle that you like, whether it be a nissan or toyota. There is hardly anything that cannot be fixed, so if you start out right like have the engine checked, and the general condition of the vehicle, if its ok go for it. It cost a total of 20000rs for the front whole front suspension (prado 1990-92 or pajero), tires 65-80000 rs, rest all is manageable and wont cost you an arm and a leg. Now finding a clean jeep can be some what hectic, i went all the way up till lahore and was not able to find a decent prado 1990-92. Spend three months and finally bought mine. Since I travel alone with my wife and two young kids I keep my jeep up to date. So I went ahead and had everything changed such as tires, timing, brakes, suspension, Cd palyer, and the list goes on and on. It cost me close to 160000rs. But now I can even take her to Karachi and back twice and she will stay intact. in my opinion if you are thinking about outdoors and adventure do NOT go for an expensive jeep, you will always be trading off the cost and the benefit and wont take her to places you would take an ordinary jeep. I must say that after bringing her to the desired level of performance even an old jeep will perform like a brand new one. I have had looots of Pajeros (go through my posts and you will find out) and looots of toyotas, and in my opinion toyotas will give you more value for money, I mean performance wise, economy wise, parts wise and comfort wise. And sure durability wise too Now if you need any further help i will be more than happy to help you out

@Abd008 Last in your budget go for a three door as opposed to five. Unless you have a large family size.

Here is mine, hope you will like it.

I spent almost a year on making this perfect from every aspect, spent between 200k-300k till now.

Though the engine transmission and body was perfect before, nothing is done on engine body etc, But it costs a lot when it comes to the perfection. I changed every faulty gadget with the oem and same part which is time taking and also costly, her rear hood was made for around 30k with a week at workshop without even a facility of a reasonable toilet, That guy said you have to come every morning and you would be free by evening. Imagine!

Each and every suspention part was restored by me which also costed a lot. The all lubes. Then some interior modifications cz this J top has nothing inside. not even power Windows.

But after an year now this vehicle is in Extreme top notch condition. Sometimes i think to sell it to buy a LC 100 cruiser but when i think about my time and passion which is spent on this thing. I forget all that.

This is also a capable offroader as its equipped with super select 4WD with a rear differential lock oem.

If you bought a pajero, you can contact me for any help as now I am Alhamdulillah and expert of Mitsubishi Pajero..

in this range i.e. an old SUV, its the "specific vehicle being bought" rather than brands, model or generations, etc.

Don't buy without a comprehensive pre-purchase inspection from an reputed SUV workshop (not the normal workshop) and you will enjoy whatever you buy.

buy for one lac below your budget, spend more/less this lac on it after buying n you wont regret.
if you get off your ride and don't look back at it, you have bought the wrong one !

Highway or Motorway speed is a big deterrent for me as my cruising speed hovers around 130 Km/h to 140 Km/h.I have heard lots of horror stories of Pajeros being capable of 90 to 100 km/h only.

that isn't right , i rode mine on 140kmp with ac in the heat of july on motor way , only got a lil heat up while crossing babusar from chillas , but that wasn't serious , Pajero can heat up on continuous uphill drive in high rev butt not while you have tough offroad.

Mashallah. Beautiful!. So the engine is capable of cruising the Motorway at 12-140 Km/h? I guess the condition matters a lot.

Then again, a 90's model can't be mint.
