Congrats to Saidhi on podium and Zohaib Jadoon on a valiant performance! Asad Khoro was running a supercharged 1GR. Heartbreaking to see the Sabab's Tundra after a nose landing busted the oil filter but a brilliant Stage 1 time. Asif Imam lost his way for 50 kms, Ronnie ran out of fuel before sage break. Zafar Magsi blue smoked his Evo at midbreak and Yours Truly took the patli gali (pipeline track) from CP5 after busting the accelerator cable.

Looks like either the front was xtremely underdamped / over sprung or the dampers were broken /nonfunctional before JJ even hit the bump!

We had a look at the video from outside and inside the vehicle. The bump was some one and a half foot. The uptravel in the front of the vehicle is around 3 inches free and 2.5 inch with bumpstop for a total of 5.5" till something metal touches. @samvaid was rolling at around 90 km/h at that spot and the ramp launched his front end off the ground. Since he had his foot in it, the rear pushed the nose higher up. When he realised that he was about to flip, he released the accelerator, dipping the front of the vehicle quickly. That caused the immense crash into the ground. Estimates are at 8-ish feet.

Sami/ akif based on your comments we need to install a bump stop under sams throttle pedal 😀. Also if he wants to jump the JJ 8 feet we need to give him 4 times the travel vs. what he has upfront.

Saidhi apparently went past Mian Rafiq when he was changing a tire, but he made quick work of it and was on the Nissan's tail coming into the finish. He was complaining to Saidhi about not giving him way but the gap between the cars seems pretty huge for Qasim to have heard the horn. I don't understand how Mian Rafiq consistently qualifies so far ahead of Mehrab Khan and other Jimnys everytime. Nothing franken about the Nissan I would think....

The JJ video isn't as entertaining as I would have thought it would be. All seems pretty OK until the thing lands.... I still havent gotten my head around it yet, but am glad that this happened early and at a relatively mild speed. Buck up Team JJ!

Speed is not the problem here. The front suspension setup is the culprit. The shocks simply did not/ could not control the full spring rebound.

We have seen similar behaviour from FDO1 and Shabab's safari's in the past. It happens when you put very heavy duty springs and in-adequate shocks just cannot control their rebound!

Also lack of experience, there was a huge crowd gathered there, meaning it was an interesting spot for action viewing and action photography. Its always better to lift off at such places, because one tends to keep an eye on crowd and miss the bumps on the tracks etc. Also with so many people around you can never discount some crowd foolishness, or the chance of losing control and going into the crowd.

The safari jump below is hardly at 40-45kmph!

I can't really comment either way. The front shocks are Bilstein 7100 remote reservoir 2.0" x 10.55" dampers. They were valved for the weight of the vehicle when it ran a full body (that being said, the weight on the front axle hasn't changed a lot). The springs are the same as Cholistan 2014 and were changed over from HD springs that proved to be too bouncy. The only modification to the front suspension for 2015 was the fitment of 2.0" x 2.5" air bump stops. These bump stops rebound very slowly, so I doubt if they contributed to the wheelie. As for the shocks and springs package, maybe it has been underdamped from the start, maybe they have loosened to such an extent so as to cause rapid rebound. Our testing didn't show any bouncy traits though. Rest assured we will in fact look again closely at the spring and damping rates separately.

    Regards,
    Sami

How could shocks be related to this if this happened during take off. Had it landed and after hitting the ground it jumped again then shocks might have something to do with this..

My best bet is JJ taking off like this because sam never came off the throttle and it dug in quite a bit.. or somehow the Back is heavier then the front or has lost its balance due to tire stand and tries being that far out at back
