Default Land Cruiser 80 series Body Change

    Hi Guys,
I am going to buy Land cruiser wagon 80 series 1992 model. I just want to know that if there is a way to check if the body is changed from original body. As i am new to land cruisers and the body of models from 1989 to 1996 looks same to me. Any tips or points based on your expert opinions will be welcomed.

    Thanks in advance.

chassis plate have codes for information like color, interior trim, gear, engine etc.
one basic way is that you can decode the code by searching on internet and compare that information with the actual vehicle.

lets wait for experts to suggest some other verification way as well

Thanks @its_me for the tip...changing of engine and gear is normal thing and it could be different from the chassis plate? Could you please tell me what trim is? Also as far as I understand chassis plate is attached to body and and is this possible that someone could have swapped it? Also on chassis plate the only thing related to body is color...if someone has placed another body, of the original color?

    Thanx in Advance

    not an expert but let me summarize a few practices;
    - take it a reputable SUV/4x4 workshop and let them examine it for u or take their expert to the vehicle or showroom
    - we were once offered(on safarish) to take the vehicle to customs dept and their inspector would do it, assume a small gift to customs dept can get you this service
    - decode the chassis no. and compare with the vehicle n its documentation
    - check seat belt stickers which in some SUV provide year of manufacture etc. compare this with vehicle's documentation
    - 15 inspection might help which is done by police experts and adding some sweetener helps here as well

if there's any hint of body change, walk away from the deal n this thread (especially post #12 onwards)explains why https://www.pakwheels.com/forums/4x4...modified-jeeps

Trim means GX, VX etc which is similiar to Xli, Gli of corollas., if your looking for an 80 series do spend some time on https://www.pakwheels.com/forums/4x4...es-1989-1998-a

in addition to experts tagged above @noman8ff, @Haroon_Tarar, @qwertypoiu, @Demonoid, @akifjanjua can help alot.

Last but not the least, if this is your first SUV/4x4 purchase, do NOT buy without a comprehensive pre-purchase inspection from a reputable SUV/4x4 workshop (not the normal workshop) as this 2-3k might save you 200-300k and there are plenty of threads that explain how and why.

the method explained on your other thread (https://www.pakwheels.com/forums/4x4...on#post4758775) hold true for an LC80 as well, seems you have 3 threads on the same topic
if you get off your ride and don't look back at it, you have bought the wrong one !

@a.zafar chassis plate is usually kept same because it carries chassis number which is there on the book as well. try to decode the model details and trim, will give u a fair enough idea of originality.

you are right about same color code in case of same color body swapped but the details written on body would be different from the chassis plate

1-check if vin plate is removed and put back on. Check the alignment of the plate and rivets with which the plate is attached with. 2- check all the relevant details on the vin e.g engine, gear code, trim, color and axles. 3-check year of manufacturing from the seat belt stickers, if they are cut something is fishy. 4- get the chassis number checked from lab so u r sure that it is not tempered with. 5- check dashboard bumpers gear and rims as every model has small differences. 6- do the toyodiy.com check from chassis number and compare it with the car the registration book. 7- get the papers checked from ETO.

Thanks @TLCFJ40, yes i verified the Vin plate for color code and it was different from the body color and also toyodiy.com was mentioning different color as was currently on the body. So i cancelled the deal and my dream to have an 80 series LC have to wait longer.

One more question guys if i see an interior of land cruiser 80 series how to identify if it is VX or VX Limited? Is there some visual difference like dual Ac or manual vs automatic transmission, or the difference is in engine like 2 Valve vs 4 Valve?

    Thanks in Advance.

1991-94 UK model and JDM import dashboard. And some of these in manual transmission are part time 4x4 and others auto are full time.
There is a spec difference. Uk ones do not have dual Ac but Jdm has it.
Some have diff locks and some dont.
These are 1hd-t(12valve) and 1hz models and has petrol 1fz engine also 12 valve.

    This is 1995-97 model dash.
Its specs are almost same as I have said about 91-94 but the other difference is it has 1hdft 24 valve engine aka multi valve... and 24valve petrol 1fzfe.

Then later 96-7 model comes with beige interior and there is also active vacation model with his stove and stuff at place of 3rd row seats.

Lastly the toyota indus import ones All from 1991-96 has this dash I dont know how and why..

I have done alot of reaserch on the subject but the thing is a trouble free and clean 80 series is impossible to find and it does not come cheaper then 2million.
Ones for 1 or 1.5 million are total crap and over priced.

Thanks @qwertypoiu for the useful information.
But from your feedback what i understand is that there are no hard and fast specs difference between VX and VX limited. Let me know if i miss anything.

Also from your feedback what i guess that Pakistan market contains UK models and Japan models. Is there any other import source like you mention the cruisers imported by Indus motors, Are they also from UK or Japan?

I am asking because i have seen another LC 80 Series at a dealer. On outside of body the stickers are of VX Limited, but how to make sure that it is actually VX Limited. Its 1HDFT 4200CC with Automatic Transmission, it seems to be a Japan imported vehicle but it doesn't contains dual AC. So i am still not sure if it is VX Limited.

    Thanks again for your time. Also anxiously waiting for feedback from @thetigerzzz , @TLCFJ40 , @kambrit , @capsat , @waqasch1
