    Default LJ72 Restoration and Engine Suggestions

    AoA PWers!

    I will be buying a dead LJ72 InshAllah. This will be my very first dead 4x4, so i plan to restore it to an acceptable condition.
    The said LJ72 will come with a 2.8Litre 3L engine, which I plan on replacing with a good engine. Among the choices are 1KZT-e and 1KD non-turbo (which came in 2010 Toyota Hilux S/cab 4x2). I have used a 2010 Hilux 4x2 for more than a year as a work horse, and I particularly liked its average which was aroud 10-11kmpl in city.
    About the body restoration, I plan on doing an off-frame shell restoration. The body is in mediocre condition with rust here and there, however, it is much better compared to army auction FJ70s.
    So for this, i require suggestions from expert PWers about which engine to opt for and from where to source a non-stolen kabuli engine. and which denter and painter will be best for this job here in LHR.
    I once saw a thread started by a member of 4x4 Mean Machines who restored and FJ70 auctioned by wapda and painted it in Police Blue. I will appreciate it if he can also contribute in this thread.
    The LJ72 will be used mostly as a daily runner in LHR with trips to northern areas every 3 months.
    Any suggestions and thoughts will be much appreciated.

    Also, a choice of 2.7L 3RZ-FE is also on the table. However, I am apprehensive about whether I can find a proper mechanic who can do its proper wiring and installation. Will the installation of 3RZ-FE require changing mounting bases on the frame?

    First inspect body and engine, if in good condition then why swap it and make tension?

    You need to get all the work done from Lahore ? Secondly my experienced advice will be keep the original engine only touch the engine if you want to convert to Auto transmission, 3rz is a totally **** engine if that then at least 5vz and that can be done and wired in pindi. I dont think there is a 1kd non turbo :/ maybe its a 2kd without Vn turbo.

    4x4 Mean machine workshop is in Ra Bazar called mean machine garage and person you are looking for Is rana Mohsin..

    The original engine is completely dead, don't want to get into the hassle of getting it over-hauled. However, I can dish out some cash to get the engine started for mobility while getting the work done on the body.
    Adnan, do PM me about your experience regarding such restorations.
    Any suggestions from to get the body work done? The shell is rusted from here and there. However, nothing major. Floor and foot boards require some attention.

    In my eyes working on original engine is fruit full rather then spending 100k on 1kz because great engines are hard to come by these days.. one is always stuck with blowing turbos and pump work and all sorts of problem. This is why I am more inclined towards non turbo engines.
    I will prefer 5vz with auto gear over ever other engine in this case and if not 5vz then I'll jump to 1hz but I believe it will be heavy for lj72.
    Anyone who works on 4x4's can do the body work. Best place will be pindi and second best will be mean machine garage.

    One of the Easiest and Practical solution is 5L-E with plenty of Similarities .

    and you can later on add a after market Turbo if Like.

    brother as per qwertypoiu bahi said 5vz is good and lot of 5vz in bilal gunj but in lahore lots of problem restoration of auction condition jeep . recently we restore RKR of friend in Lahore pm me your number let me share some experience with you.

    I don't know about the other engines you mentioned, but 1KZTE gives an average of not more than 6/7 km/ ltr. Go for the original 3L. An amazing machine. Around 12/ 13 km/ ltr average if run below 100km/ ltr. Non efi, non turbo, no wiring, get a 5 speed trany with it and enjoy life. A 3L has also come in 5 door prado so no issues of power. And getting it overhauled will not take you more than 4 days, not a big deal.
    My personal experience is that one must think 10 times before changing/ fixing different engine other than the stock. And than being new in restoring, you must try to avoid alterations and electrical hassles.

    Remember, "pakistani bivi aor efi engine kay masalay kabhi khatam nahin hotay".

    That's a 5L he's talking about, there's no KD motor without a VGT.

    I have lj72 zarai tariaqati bank auctioned with original 3l engine. Its my daily runner with excellent mileage of 8 - 8.5 with AC these days in busy traffic areas. I would recommend you to keep the original engine, the only issue is not much of pick and torque, which shud not be an issue for a jeep which will be your daily runner. I have also done some body work to get rid of the rust and painted those parts to give a fresh look which should not cost you much either. I am not sure about the re-doing the suspension and would request some senior members to guide me for the overhauling the suspension.
    I will be highly obliged to noman8ff, nomijee200 and thetigerzzz and all the senior members who can guide m about the suspension overhaul and refer me some good mechanic for it and same contact of rana mohsin in RA bazar if he is the go to guy for jeeps restoration. Kindly share your contact so that i can contact you gurus for advise.
