    Default 1KZ TE engine overhaul or Swap

    Salam

    I have 97 prado with 1Kz te engine...it consume 2 liter Mobil oil with in 1000 Km and gives halka blow according to mechanics. Now i am thinking of swap the engine with other less km driven 1kz. Should i go for swap ? Does 1kz swaps are successful ?

    OR

    Is there any other option ?

    Change your mechanic....
    'Halka Blow'.....
    With 2 litres of oil consumption....
    And also ponder over your oil brand, source and grade.....
    An oil burner at this rate should give you serious starting up issues by now......
    Poor compression on 1KZ and 1KD are known for their poor start ups......
    MEN DO IT AT DAKAR!!!

    i use Zic 5000 10W/40

    and yes i am facing starting issue as well it takes longer time to start up

    Then that 'Halka Blow' theory stands incorrect......
    Rebuilds are only good if you have a qualified mechanic and an equally matching machinist.....
    And have the luxury of 'REAL' original parts sourcing.....
    Kabli options hold good if you have a donor half cut to register the car's mileage....
    And btw, better lubricant options are available than your current preferred brand....

    Rebuild only if you get hold of complete re build kit including new head bolts and every thing .
    How many KMs your car have done ??
    As I have a experience if having a 1kz with more than 400k KMs and still going strong .

    qualified mechanic is difficult to find and i have no mechanic whom i can trust
    half cut option would be better...
    kindly recommend any better brand

    Car is only driven 90000 kms maybe previous owner reversed odo meter but over all condition of the vehicle is very good

    Engine also runs fine turbo and inter cooler is also OK but car gives lot of black smoke some times start up is also long and if we open oil cap it throws little bit oil

    i am worried because of smoke and oil consumption Recently only 4 liter oil comes out from engine during oil change

    sorry for a bit off topic. How much does it cost for an engine rebuild or a swap?
