As-salamu alaykum,
I have been visiting these forums on and off for the past few years now, I know a few old members (now inactive) personally and figured this would be the best place to ask some questions about a trip I'm planning.
I want to drive from Islamabad to Khunjerab Pass and want to visit all the notable areas in between such as: Murree, Bhurban, Nathia Gali, Muzaffarabad, Kagan, Naran, Jheel Saif Al Maluk, Gilgit, Babusar Pass, Deosai Pleateau, Hunza etc.
I have a few important questions regarding this trip. Since I'm coming from abroad I have little to no idea of how to tackle these issues. I am a Pakistani but I have never spent more than 3 months in Pakistan. Without further ado, below are my questions, numbered for your reading/answering pleasure:
1) What is better, renting a 4x4 or buying one? I would personally prefer buying one. Pros and cons?
2) If I will buy one, what is the procedure for vehicle registration?
3) Can I drive on an international driving license, being a Pakistani passport holder but not residing in Pakistan? Do I have to hold a license or can I get away without one?
4) What is a cheap but reliable 4x4 to take on this journey? I was thinking Potohar. Ideally with a soft top.
5) What would be the best route to take to visit most if not all the areas mentioned above?
Thank you in advance for your input.
Regards
