@Akif
Good 2 know another Jeep Lover. U know FJ-40 is also striking my mind to go for a project. No doubt TLC FJ-40 with a good mechanical setup is great Off-Roader.
For FJ40 it’s own suspension along with it’s own Housings, Differentials, Axels works great and they are more reliable than any other setup. Good thing about these parts is that these are easily available. For engine setup I will recommend if U have a bit higher budget or I will recommend following options number wise which so ever meets your budget then go for that one. In the following order number 1 is the top choice.
This engine recommendation is only for FJ40 not for Willys MB, M38, M38A1 or CJ-5.
1: 1KZ-TE
2) IKZ
3) 3L
4) 2L-TE
5) 3CT
FJ40 project surely will cost U more than Willys or CJ-5 project. But rest assured that once the project is finished U would have a great off-roader in your possession. Roughly idea for the FJ-40 Project can be projected in between 5 to 6.5 Lacs.
The only very important and crucial issue in FJ40 project is to get the Chassis. Rest body interior and suspension is easily available. The best bet would be a bad condition or a reasonable condition registered one in a reasonable price. As I understood U asked if Willys chassis works for FJ40 then answer is no. It won’t work and altering it, means fabricating totally non-reliable chassis. As I mentioned try to get old FJ-40 in City Saddar Road area, look for the adds in news, Dawn, Jang etc. and look around different jeep Markets. Some time U get some one selling cheap or U can always negotiate.
Feel free to ask any further information. Best of Luck and keep me posted.
