    Default Babu Sar Pass Tour-2006

    Guyz,
ref to my updation on Off road Pakistan forum.I wana share our Latest tour of Babusir Pass. The said tour was the most memorable tour of my off road carrier.
    Day-1
We left Islamabad at 06:30 on 12-8-2006 & reach Balakot at 11:30pm & slept in a driver hotel along the road as road was blocked due to land slide near Kiwai(14Km) after Balakot.
    Day-2
We crossed that Land slide area even stones were coming & hiting us but there was no turning back & we reached Lalusir Lake by crossing Naran & Taking some Important supplies. We reached Besal at 11:pm at night as most of the day time was wasted at Kiwai. We camped at Lalusir it was very cold & dark so we camped, eat tin food & slept in sleeping bags.
    Day-3
Morning was very beautiful & pleasant at Lalusir. But our stomach were in bad condition due to the bad (tin food) & every body was patient of Daria (loose motions) & we were laughing at each other as there was only one Lota & Nine people were rushing towards the rocks
Three Jeeps My Willy's ,Mr.Aziz (friend from Lahore) Dihutsu Rocky (1987) & Land cruiser belongs to Col.Amir Murad. We enjoyed the beauty of Lalusir & Moved on To Babusir Pass after Lunch. It was real Hard core off road to Babusir Pass as I drove about 4 Hours continuous in L-4 (4wd) at about 4500 RPM on average as there was steep climb uphill & track was very narrow & river kunhar is roaring 1000 meter below. No space for error. We enjoyed the scenery at Babusir pass & sort of chilas we came back all the way Back to Besal as road was closed due to land slide near Chilas so we decided to go back same route.
    Day-4
Camping at Ghazi Sir Lake was our dream when we visited Naran on 01-7-2006 so we decided to make do it.As the track for Ghazi Sir Lake starts from Bata Kundi & it took 90 mins to reach Ghazi Sir but that was the most dangerous part of the tour as Rocky's Breaks were weak so we tried to hire a Taxi jeep to carry our luggage & People & the taxi Jeep (Extended cj-7) Driver said "u people are Mad" this track is very dangerous & he refuses to go.So we decided that Hamid Munir (Citibanker) will drive the Rocky & so we moved on & camped at Ghazi Sir Lake.So we are the first Jeepers who made it,camped there,Spend night, caught trought (Fish) & have lots of fun.
    Day-5
Back to Naran from Ghazi Sir Lake.In naran during Luch I offer all of the team that tour will be incomplete if we will not take Pics at saiful Malook so every body decided to go there.Glacier before Naran was in Bad shape so we took only two jeeps Alon Willys & Rocky as Land cruiser was fully loaded woth Tents,Sleeping bags,Food etc.
Crossing Glacier was also a story whcih was caught on video camera by Doctor (Friend from Lahore) & finaly me got good Pucs at Saif Ul Malook.
    Day-6
Back to Islamabad & by grace of GOD weather was clear no more traffic at Land slides & we saw that Austin Rower (Amazing jeep) on way back.
I am sending you the Pics of the tour I hope u will update them on the web site .
My friends on the trip were:
1- Fahad Ali (citibank) Willys M-38 Model 1942
    2- Kashif Mehmood (citibank)
    3- Hamid Munir (citibank)
    4- Naveed Khan (citibank)
5- Col Amir Murad (Pak Amry) Owner of Land Cruiser 1986
6- Aziz rehaman (lahore) Dihutsu Rocky 1987
    7- faisal (lahore)
    8- Doctor (Our Doc)
    9- Imran (LHR)
We enjoyed each & every moment of our tour & all the credit of the said tour goes to Naveed Khan (OPS Manager citibank Isb) whos efforts make this trip possible.
Usman My younger brother was not in this trip due to his official duties.Usman I missed u a lot.

The Pak Army Bumper sticker is just an affiiation shown to the Armed forces as Jeep belongs to my Father Brig.M.Akbar Malik,My Elder brother Col.Amir Shehzad,Younger brother F.LT.Usman & Uncle Col.Ikram ,Basically its a pure Fauji family so n affiliation to all of them this Bumper sticker was placed.
I am also attaching my yunger brother Usman Nadeems Picture.Man I miss u so much on the tour.

    Akbar Sahib
Situation is not good after earth quake.Road after Balakot is in realy bad shape till Kaghan.land slide starts from Baakot & near Kiwai (Sugran Turn) its very dangerous as rocks are falling.U must need a four wheel drive machine Balakot onwards. If u reach Kaghan Rest of the route is ok,Big glacier before Naran was in bad shape when I visited. And river crossing after Besal also needs serious nevigation. So be carefull dont take risks.

    @Akabr_Khan

Road from Balakot to Naran is open though destroyed by earthquakes and landslides but it's do able even with Mehran. I visited Naran and Saif-ul-Muluk in September this year. Till Naran Road was open and if there is landslide the Army and some private Operators clear up the roads quickly. From Naran to Saif-ul-Muluk U will need 4x4, which U can easily rent from Naran. I paid 700 Rupees for a day trip Plus some tip I paid to the driver.

It must be getting chiller so better get the worm gear with U. For road and other useful info check below link of my Trip to Naran & Saif-ul-Muluk.

Thanks a lot Fahad and Voyager.

Actually since my last trip in 2004, i ve been out of the country and was not updated on the current situation of the road to naran, saif ul malook and Jalkhad/Babusar and that wether its negotiable or totally blocked. The glacier before naran is more or less a constant problem, however landslide after kiwai must be after earthquake. I hope those locals whose livelihood depends on tourists (jeep drivers, shopkeepers and hotels) would start resuming by next year.

I have a turbodiesel land cruiser medium wheel base and hope to plan a trip june/july next year.

    Akbar
