    Default Cholistan Desert Rally 2007.

For all offroading Enthusiasts, kindly post about yr ride and trip plan and vehicle modifications for ur ride, if ya are planning to venture into adeventure of a life time.

Multan—Tourism Development Corporation Punjab (TDCP) will try to attract international racers for participation in its third annual Cholistan desert jeep rally expected to be held in March 2007 at Bahawalpur.

TDCP has decided in a meeting to contact ambassadors of foreign countries, particularly the Arab countries, to come to Cholistan desert to watch the rally.

“We will also try to ensure participation of at least ten jeep racers from foreign countries to give international colour to this rally”, Regional Manager TDCP Multan Shoaib Ahmad told APP by telephone.

The Sep 23 TDCP meeting was chaired by its Managing Director Irfan Ali. Representatives from Four Wheel Drive Club (FWDC) Lahore Mujahid Zafar and Suhail Ahmad, Roni Patel from FWDC Karachi, Mehmood Majeed from FWDC Bahawalpur, Col (rtd) Kamaluddin Rana from Houbara Foundation, general manager (operations) TDCP Mrs. Shazia Ikram, EDO F&P Dr. Raheel Siddiqui, tourism officer Ashfaq Khan, and rally cell members Musa Raza, and Saqib Rasheed attended the meeting.

In 2006 jeep rally, Dubai car rally champion had registered for the contest but voluntarily withdrew for his four-wheeler was powerful and well equipped than the other participants. “We may add more categories to accommodate powerful vehicles in 2007 rally”, Shoaib said.

“An ambassadors’ city comprising of luxurious tents equipped with all facilities would also be set up near historical Derawar Fort in Cholistan desert to facilitate the ambassadors in case they decide to witness the rally.”

March 9-10-11 are the tentative dates for the mega three-day event which would be finalized later. “We may hold the event earlier than the aforesaid dates in March.” Shoaib said, Punjab government has offered a helicopter to get aerial view of the rally and to serve as ambulance in case of any accident.

The 2007 rally route would be over 250-kilometre long, some 20 kilometres longer than the 2006 rally, Shoaib said adding the route committee has been formed comprising Shoaib himself, EDO Dr. Raheel and FWDC members Mujahid and Mehmood Majeed who will visit the area for inspection of route after Eidul Fitar.

Prime Minister Shoukat Aziz has sent an appreciation letter to the TDCP on two successful jeep rallies in Cholistan desert and has promised federal government’s coordination in holding the event in future.

Promising strict observance of rules, Shoaib said entry fee has been enhanced from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15000 per pair of participants i.e driver and navigator. Procedure for allotment of numbers to participants has also changed.

Participants would have to join a race at a five-kilometre long oval-shape route at the dry bed of river Sutlej to get numbers according to the positions they will secure in the race.

According to tentative programme, dinner at Darbar Mehel Bahawalpur would be held on March 9, 2007, stickers would be pasted on vehicles and their fitness would be checked at circuit house on March 10 and five-kilometre race at the river bed would be held the same day at 12 pm.

Main race will be held on March 11. Prize money has been enhanced from Rs 100,000 last year to Rs 150,000 for first position holders in all categories. Second position holders will get Rs 100,000 each and third Rs 75000 in each category.—APP

I surely will try to be ther for both the rallies but due lack of skilled labour in the Workshop I will be tied up for a bit. But You never know we just might be there and surprise you all

Good, I am sure it will be a dream team We will have a Diesel Mechanic with us too a Very well experienced one too. (Ustad Babu)

    @Charter
yes I think you should approach sponsors. if you get anything it would be a bonus. Rangie TD would be nice and it is good performer on dry sand type dirt. Whose vehicle would it be

@Sajidd, we can surely share the support vehicle, its a Suzuki Potohar. There was this class fellow of mine in Bahawalpur, we used to study ther at Sadiq Public. I am trying to get in contact with him but he is very angry with me on ma wedding thing, if he gets connected then we will have support vehicles and a proper accomodation in Bahawalpur aswell.

@Eagleton, Bhai if I remove the rear bed where will I am going to put the tyres. I am planning to change the seats as I spotted a very fine set of bucket seats. Bhai bumper is the foremost support incase of an accident in Pakistan. Fiber Glass hood for a rally is unaffordable. I am planning my work to make it more reliable rather then fast. Though I will be removing the rear seats and the rear door ya mentioned.

Felt quite enthusiastic today after yesterday's bang. So went for shopping early morning ther at Shershah.

Bought a New/Kabli Radiator Heavy Duty.
Bought the genuine break pads as the old ones were after-market.
Bought the new/kabli untouched front suspension which includes front differential, heavy duty shocks, new Kainchies(Control Arms), Axles, Hus, Spendils etc. Suspension stuff will be delieverd as on wednesday and I will not be here in khi as on saturday so will install the stuff as soon as I will be back in khi.
Sent the vehicle to the Denter.
Sent the front grill for repair as grill wasnt available frm Shershah, they said a customized grill of Nissan Patrol or Later Model can fit with some alterations. But Isticked to the original grill.

Checked out lot of Rims/Tyrs. Will buy them when I will be back.

Inshallah by the end of next week all the preparation will be done.

    I think Anti-Roll Bar is a requisity.

@Fahad, Kindly suggest which things to work on or to look out for the preparation of rally. And had ya drove earlier at Cholistan , if yes kindly explain the driving technique and terrain reponse. Important factors involved.

All of the off-roaders participating the cholistan rally 2007..i would like to give u guys a tip for that rally....first of all i recommend all of u snorkels preferably safari snorkel as the dust powder goes into ur engine and ultimately seize it.. i remember in 2005 a lot of 4x4s siezed and some of them were not even recovered uptil late night......if guyz from karachi must have seen a Mitsubishi Evo in silver..its air filter literally blasted and it breathed in that dust which caused the engine failure....that there was a Ford f-150 from lahore of sardar hassan he had the same problem by the way this ford f150 is participating once again this year...than there was this toyota hurricane also from Lahore and it's engine breathed the same dust and it was gone....a friend of mine had to stop his vehicle (a defender without snorkel) to clean the air cleaner and according to him he atleast removed 2 pounds of dust. Actually in Cholistan it's not the sand its the powder dust which is very dangerous for the vehicles...

This time what i have heard some professional international drivers are also competing...so good luck to all of the Participants.

Just remember ur aim should not be to go fast ur aim shold b to complete the rally with making least damage to the vehicle....

A combination of air cleaners One oil bath and one paper type will help prolong service interval.

If space permits, an old oil bath air filter (which Land cruiser B3 engine used to have) or get a desi one from a tractor can be placed with the orginal one. Air should enter the oil bath system first and then the normal paper one.

    JUst an idea.

Air bath type air cleaners do not restrict air flow at all.

It works but not for Rallys. A oil bath in a rally will get clogged in the first few kms.

Agreed about first few Kms and the later ones will be covered by the next filter, or not?

Well that will last another few and then back to square one but I guess it will last longer then the previous ones But if the first gets clogged then the secondary will not have chance to work.

A better idea is to place a K&N Filter and use a sock on it. This way it is easier to clean. We do this in the desert here. Which is similar sand, known as Sabkah.
