    Default Starting off my Jeep Project

    Hi all jeepers,

    i am finally going ahead with my jeep project.

    the vehicle will be a army auctioned M38A1 converted to CJ5 shape just like this

    Starting off my Jeep Project -495549

    The restoration will take place at city saddar road jeep bazaar... the mechanic is zafar ustaad...here is what basic specs i hav decided

    engine: 3C-T
    Gears: Daihatsu rocky
    differentials/steering assembly: rocky
    kamani: Jeep
    half hard doors

    as this is my first such project... i need guidance from experts like ehsan kiani, jeepaholic, khakiMB, voyager bhai who have actually been into such work at city saddar.

    The first thing i want to ensure is that i get the right frame with auction voucher... i dont trust the mechanic on this... coz i have heard that vouchers are messed up and sometimes creates problems in registeration.

    whats the location of frame/chasis number on the frame?
    whats the original Voucher like?
    what things i should be careful of?

    i need this info a bit quick... coz im going ahead with the first payment next week... so guide me... i dont want to go wrong in this work

    @akifjanjua reporting on duty sir. Please send me your cell number at dosaipk@yahoo.com enabling me to call you and discuss in detail.

    @Storm Its cj5 and not cj7 for sure.

    @RedBull_ar engine bay of cj5(the one in picture) and cj7 are almost same as both of them had six in line. But our basic project vehicle here m38a1 has a amaller engine bay as it has four inline known as Hurricane F head 134.
    To all the extreme drivers, please come offroad like ME to keep others safe on the roads.

    @Akif,

    First of all I am really sorry to be late in reply (ur e-mail), actually I went to Pak for few days and then got busy with Training in Kabul.

    Hope you are in good health and looking forward to your Jeep Project. Akif first you need to get a Chassis/frame with auction voucher or an old Jeep with proper Registration Documents. Avoid possibly any Jeep registered AJK as mostly (not all) these Registration Docs are used in two Cities for 2 Jeeps.

    As U mentioned about 1982 CJ frame, I thing the price tag with auction voucher is fine. The auctioned vouchers from these Kabariayas (Auctioneers) are ok they have no problem. Try to find some one at Islamabad Registration Office and get it registered there.

    Mechanically U have chosed the good options for UR Jeep which I would have also recommended. I will also recommed that U should use Rocky's Suspension.

    Engine: 3C-T
    Gearbox: Daihatsu Rocky
    Differentials & Suspension: Daihatsu Rocky
    Steering Assembly: Rocky

    Please do ask if you need any other help or information. And do mail me your mobile number.

    @Voyager

    yes i need you suggestions regarding suspension... what i have been told by my mechanic that coz this is a short wheelbase jeep so jeep's own kamani will be used... rocky kamani cannot be used as its longer... it work with wrangler type vehicle.

    rest all suspension will be of rocky plus the steering assembly etc

    abt tyres... i have seen some in market... yokohama 275/70/R16 is for Rs 6800 each... i think 275 is way broad... i think 245 will be enough... what do u say?

    abt rims... aren't jeeps original steel rims cheap to get... i dont trust alloys really... they aint that tough specially the kinda chinese stuff we have in market... i want to stick to steel ones.

    i'll keep u guys updated abt it

    Akif,
    First of all wellcome on board from all Jeepers.
    Well dear building a cj5 on M-38A-1 frame.I think 3CT will be underpowered for CJ-5 or CJ7.
    As Me Voyager & other jeepers are using 3cT in willys MB frame.I will suggest u for 2L Turbo (Toyota 2400 Turbo) for this frame as it will cost u few thousand more than 3c but will give y more power & its equally good on fuel like 3cT.
    2nd suggestion will be Rocky gear 5 fwd with Manaul 4x4 option.It will cost u abt 20,000/-.
    Use free wheel hubs in front suspention which will give u more fuel econmy while driving in 2wd mode.
    As I am using Rocky suspention with Vacum powered 4x4 (Electronic) but I am not satisfied with it as at times during shikar or Hard core off road vacum lines or electric connections got disconnected & then u will be in trouble.
    Also Use 4 Nali readator to cool down the engine in hot summer & on long rout as on long run u will not get over heated on motorway.
    Dont push the vehical beyond its limits for example if u will push the jeep above 120Km/h if it started rising the Temp stay below 120 & save your horse.
    At times I push my Jeep upto 150 Km/H but I loose my engine life very soon.
    "So keep these tips in your mind & enjoy as Fun Begins where road ends"
    One last suggestion is to build a Willys MB on the said frame if u like.Pic attached .
    Regards,
    Fahad Ali

    And Reg Tyres:
    Well I myself is using General All Grip cost abt 25000/- for five tyres with rims.Being an off road driver I will not recomned u alloy rims as they are not as duable as normal Rocky rims on rocks & other trains.
    Thses general tyres are not tube less but beleive u me I have pushed them behind the limits & they never let down me.Its the Third season & they are still without any Puncture after doing 50,000 KM.
    I am trying to attach a side pose of the tyres & it gives good Military look to the Jeep.
    One can see on what type of offroad these general tyres can do & they are cheep as well........

    In above Pic u can see a Rocky Jeep Model 1987 belongs to one of my friend.It proves that what Rocy suspention can do.Its a great machine & works impressively under Willys Mb,M38 or Cj or CJ7.
    Pure Off road & high speed on the road as well.
    So keep these things in mind & I know Zafar Ustad is a very capable Mechnaic but u have to biuld ur jeep as per your desire & pocket.
    My choice will be if other than Willys is attached

    @offroad

    fahd bhai.. i agree the general are too tough for all terrains... but im gonna use this jeep in city/highways... radials tend to give a better ride on tarmac... and they do good offroad... and look good too

    regarding zafar ustaad i wanted to know his rating... although found him to be an expert.. but then experiences matter.

    best of luck with your jeep proj. keep us updated of any progress.
    do consider 2L-Turbo also as some1 has pointed out the possibility of 3C-Turbo being underpowered.

    @All

    Here is what I found on engine options

    3C-T 2.2 Turbo Diesel
    74kW/99hp@4200rpm
    216Nm/159lbs@2600rpm

    3C-TE 2.2 Turbo Diesel
    94kW/125@4000rpm
    206Nm/151lbs@2200rpm

    2L-T - 2.4L
    64Kw/86hp@4000
    189Kw/139ft/lbs@2400rpm

    i dont want any EFI thing... i knw it would end messed up in a Jeep.... no electronics required

    I think 3C-T can do equally good... i have heard alot of 2L's head cracking overheating problems... thats why 3L was launched having a better head.... correct me if im wrong
