    Default Starting off my Jeep Project

    Hi all jeepers,

    i am finally going ahead with my jeep project.

    the vehicle will be a army auctioned M38A1 converted to CJ5 shape just like this

    Starting off my Jeep Project -495549

    The restoration will take place at city saddar road jeep bazaar... the mechanic is zafar ustaad...here is what basic specs i hav decided

    engine: 3C-T
    Gears: Daihatsu rocky
    differentials/steering assembly: rocky
    kamani: Jeep
    half hard doors

    as this is my first such project... i need guidance from experts like ehsan kiani, jeepaholic, khakiMB, voyager bhai who have actually been into such work at city saddar.

    The first thing i want to ensure is that i get the right frame with auction voucher... i dont trust the mechanic on this... coz i have heard that vouchers are messed up and sometimes creates problems in registeration.

    whats the location of frame/chasis number on the frame?
    whats the original Voucher like?
    what things i should be careful of?

    i need this info a bit quick... coz im going ahead with the first payment next week... so guide me... i dont want to go wrong in this work

    Hi,
    I hardly use this site. First of all i wish you luck in your project. Please make sure the engine is not under powered for your jeep. I have a feeling that the 3c might not be the right engine for you. I can tell u that it works brilliantly on the smaller flat fenders such are the MB/M 38 ect. Just because the 3 ct is a popular engine does not mean that it is the RIGHT engine for your jeep. Having said that please don’t rush to complete the project. Think about it, weigh all possible options and most importantly make a budget. From what i understand, you should be able to get your project completed within 300,000. If it is costing you more then you need to talk to the experts. Remember you are making an off-road rugged vehicle not a luxury vehicle (most of which hardly go off-road). If you need help feel free to send me an email.

    Original dashboard would be better looking.

    Old ammo box is great as a storage box between fromt seats. It could be fixed with bolts and a lock to secure personal belongings in otherwise open jeep.

    In my opinion half hard doors will not look good on M38A1, but it is a matter of personal choice.

    @jeepaholic

    yes im planning to put a diamond plate under the doors too... make it a bit different

    about that kohinoor wali jeeps u mentioned... well i went there today... yes they are good... complete in all respect but not running i think... waisay bhi i know fauji total pora kartay hein... they just keep the inventory up to date

    but the guy is asking toooo much.... 160K is alot of amount... tried to negotiate a bit... i offered him 140K... but he was like 4-5 ka almost sold... 2-3 left... and what i say is too low.

    this doesn't suit me i just need a frame and body... and paying so much for m38a1 machinery is not at all feasible

    but anybody interested in making a stock M38A1... go for these jeeps.... they are good

    @Akif

    That is a good buy. Being a 1977 model it should have better ratio differentials and transmission. Is engine changed or original 6 cylinder petrol still there?

    Didn't you verified chasis number while buying the Jeep? It should be somewhere on frame near the grill. Look around frame rails top & sides.

    @jeepaholic

    sorry boss.... was busy... have alot of pics to upload.... here is a brief update

    the differentials are were bought last week, disassembled, washed and reassembled.... i could hardly find any wear on the differential bearings... they were like new.... the frame work is almost done.... only kamani hangers and steering box are left.... then red-oxide paint and ready.... i kept the 77 model's own jeep kamani.... i think they would do good coz late models have a longer better kamani.

    some pics of differetial rebuilt....
