    Part III.........
    In this leg of the project, our aim was to get the oil air cleaner, battery box, lifty pump and radiator fitted. As we approached the ‘Khada Market’ the gentleman behind me was blowing his motorbike horn. He obviously had room to go around me but refused to do so. Jeepaholic was trying to find the electric welder in the narrow alleyway. The horn again from the motorbike, in Punjabi he told me to park my jeep on the far side of the road which I did, as I was about to get off the MB, the motorbike guy came running to me. We discovered that he was the welder. In a very nice tone now he said; come around the block that side of the alley had more room for the jeep to enter. The MB was guided close to the welding machine; the hand gestures reminded me of the guy responsible for bringing the aircraft to a stop near the terminal (to taxi it in), signaling with the florescent placards in his hands. Finally the tight fist indicated that we were in the right position. After a little negotiation the work began. What seemed like a 30 min job took hours. After all 4 L-irons were to be joined together to make the battery base. Same thing for the top. However adjustments had to be made. Two to three additional holes were hammered in (the most painful part of the project as any body alteration takes away from the originality). The radiator was soldered in place. So was the air cleaner. It was 10 at night; the work was complete but the engine was giving trouble starting, was it the generator, the ignition, an issue with the glow plugs/heater, drained battery? We analyzed, detective ‘Jeepaholic’ concluded that it was starter problem. Early Sunday morning he took the MB to the ‘starter guru’, repaired the starter, and it worked like magic. With this done our projects major works were complete (except the paintjob which has been put on the back burner). Now coming to the irritants, oil pan leak; quite minor, gearbox oil leak; excessive, and diesel leak; ‘tip tip’ according to Jeepaholics chauffeur. And the slight tilt on the vehicle, has been taken care of. Now it is perfectly balanced. Besides the Rocky axels and gearbox has anyone tried the original toyota gearbox for the 3-CT, if so, is it successful in the flat fenders?

    Well Thanks Charterali, I am sure "Baklawa" is available in most of Pakistan perhaps the one found in Karachi is of a very good quality. The MB still has a few issues. Pipe leaks and all, the idea is to go offroad as soon as its ready.

    Ladies and gentlemen, if the ride is smooth like silk stick to the road and if it’s rough like Africa, they go for a tough vehicle like the Toyota. Mostly hi-lux/4 runner. Lots of those around, I will try and post photos.

    Thanks Storm, you can find ‘Baklawa’ at the Afghan Bakery around Jinnah Supper.
    Rajafahadk thanks!!!

    @KMB

    Get the MB serviced with special attention to underside. Once it is clean and on the lift, look for the source of leakage from transmission. It could be a seal or a damaged gasket.

    Oil pan leakage may be due to an old washer or slipped threads of bolt/nut of oil drain.

    Diesel leakage may be due to a desi rubber pipe, got hardened or a missing clamp, anywhere in fuel line.

    I suppose the original 3C transmission may not have 4WD option. In which car it was/is offered?

    Hi Saad,

    Before i left it was decided that all pipes new or old will be replaced. There are only a few pipes in the engine. Good tip on the oil pan leakage, will get a new washer for it. As for the 4wheel option i will have to check that.

    The bill to repair the axels is one third the cost of the rocks axels. Thus i am going to stick to these make functional repairs on them and then get the Rocky parts after i wear them out.

    Will send photos from Africa on the types of 4X4 machines here.
