    Default Still Serving the Nation

I was on route to take my Willys MB for half-yearly maintenance and saw these M38A1’s out on a Test Run. These Jeeps are being restored by 501 Army Workshop in Rawalpindi.

New Chinese D1 Diesel engine is being planted in with the original Gear Box. Steering Box is also changed. Rest almost the initial configuration. I was really amazed by the re-storing work and the Jeeps were really in a good shape. Good some good tips from the Army Mechanics. They also appreciated my ride and really liked the drive with 3CT.

These M38A1’s has proved to be the best of its time along with other Jeeps and still serving the Nation with their unbeaten performance.

wow voyager you are having all the fun by yourself, superb spotting. Did you take number of any of the army mechs so that we can interview them in detail later? like why this engine? what steering box? what did they do to the brakes? etc. sorry wont be able to see you this time as i am in wildwest for a week.

Fleet of army vehicles reminds me of this recent incident. There was this whole line up of around 30 or so 32 wheelers passing through kharian canntt. I was on my way back. I had to take the car down from a single lane road which was passing through a gaoon. Now i took it down as much as i could.. this one passing truck just slightly "touched" the right back end of my car and luckily only my back light broke a bit and a dent got into the side of the car. The driver did'nt even know he had hit me cuz it was .. i repeat.. a 32 wheeler with tanks abroad my luck that i escaped with minimum damage !

    Nice spotting Voyager.

But arent these militarized CJ-5s? See the absence of 2nd battery box in front of wind screen, which should be there incase of M38A1.

I have seen similar converted jeeps given to Punjab Rangers. Engine is very noisy like a tractor.

    @ Voyager

Gr8 Spotting ! 501 Army Workshop does Engine Swaps and all sorts of conversions as they have very experienced mechanics.

I remember, our unit had a Nissan Sunny Staff Car which had a 1000cc engine originally but then the workshop swapped in a 1300cc engine frm old Corolla's into them. Now all NIssan Sunny's in the army have the Corolla 1.3 Engine !
