    @tmkhan77

    Generally, Diesel engines are far more reliable than petrol engines. And it consumes less.

    Its not without reason that most (if not all) of the taxis in france belgium germany etc... are powered with diesel engines!

    For example, a mercedes diesel taxi can make more than 400 000 kms (four hundred thousands!) without any major problem!

    here is some old info i once collected here on PW

    a cj5/6/7 frame chasis will cost u abt 120K
    toyota 3C-T == 35K, 1kz-te == 80K
    dihatsu differtianls, axles=25K
    transmission == 20K
    new tyres=20K
    suspension work=10K
    body work=?
    seats, role cage, hardtop soft top, etc etc == ?

    so basically if u want a complete make over and tough stuff for offraoding, consider 3 lacs atleast with 1kz-te
    other wise if u can use original stuff, with 3c-t, maybe 2.25K

    U should have around 3lacs-3.5lacs atleast....and go for 1kz-t not the (te).....and do get comfortable seats as it would b hard suspension bcause of leaf springs...i would recommend a non electronic engine which would b expensive but hassle free like 13b turbo or 3c turbo etc etc..

    First
    Define what you want to achieve from your jeep?
    Speed, high offroad capability, fun, low speed high off road or high speed low off road,
    Then decide your engine and drive trainy,

    ok say you need low speed high off road with medium looks

    for M38A1(CJ5) you will be best with 2-C-turbo stock gear(3 gear) stock drive trainy the joint will be between the housing and the gear Housing of 2c and gear stock.
    This function works best with top speeds of 85km per hour no vibrations if properly alined. for breaks go for the hiace survy setup and at the shoe level used good qaulity leathers you can even replace the braek cylinders at tyres they areavaliable brand new imported for CJ5
    this setup will give you best off road performance at stock tyres even in 1 footer mud.
    All will cost you around 225,000 and now the body has to get repaired and well its your choice.

    i am using one with this same setup and i can bet for any off road action(except high alpha angels)

    ok for high speed and high offroad go for cj7 or bj40 and get 1 hz or multivalve 4.2 with LC diffs. Or you can go for a 350 ci V8. Well it all depends on how much you wanna spend.
    To all the extreme drivers, please come offroad like ME to keep others safe on the roads.
