can't compare the 2, New defenders are worth 21 lacks and new cruisers cost about 4 times as much.

well ARMY had LANDROVER DEFENDER and it doesnt come closer to the LAND CRUISERS for durability,dependability,comfort,easy maintenance,cabin space,and it has got a very very sensitive power steering which has resulted in toppling most of them.There is a famous saying in Australia once u r going to barren and godforsaken lands,,(If u wana go out there,go by LANDROVER,but if u wana come back 2 then use TOYOTA LANDCRUISER)
HONDAS are like GIRLFRIEND and, TOYOTA a life partner always with u even going is tough..
Initially there were alot of roll overs & fatalities too, later on they went ahead being careful and installed a few ROPS (roll over protection systems)
They were tested thoroughly by Pak Army in their UN roles abroad (mostly Africa) and termed as failures. They got stuck in the African sand and slush, were the TLC waded through.
Nowadays whatever's left has been converted to TOW systems, replacing the aging M38A1s.
BUT Land Cruiser wins hands down

It is impossible to please everybody.
- lc (not prado) has a much better power : weight ratio than LR and therefore is better on mountain roads
- comparison on desert roads (dont know)
- LR electrics are a disaster, even the MD of LR doesnt trust them
- How many taliban do you see driving around in an LR?
Most people who know this stuff will always risk their lives on an LC compared to the LR
Conclusion: LC all the way!!!
land rovers look cool in the movies, but they're not as practical as land cruisers, in real life.
Talking about land rover Defender.
a vehicle with a lot of rough & tough looks & steel bolts all around the body, that does not mean, its going to be a good off road machine

I am also a big fan of Landrover and enjoyed one back in 91-92 it was my father official car in Pasni, Gawadar, but when you talk about reliability, nothing else than LC.
A quick comparison could be that most of the pajero and even Landrover are converted to Toyota engines. Really you open the sales section of pakwheels and most of the 1st gen pajeros and landrover defender would be converted to toyota engines.
I currently own HJ60 with 2h, 3980cc, 6 cyl, 400000 kms driven without overhauling and normal life of this engine is about 6-700000 kms and with this beast I got 10km/l on saturday Sept 22, 2012 while driving from Lahore to Jhelum at a speed of 90-100 km/h without AC.
Landrover could be very powerful in terms of offroading etc. but there is another thing these vehicles are not designed for the quality of fuel we have here.
Even toyota with there new D4D technology is a big failure in pakistan it does not mean that the technology is failure but the reason is that it is not designed for the fuel quality we have.
also you can get all the LC parts easily in pakistan.

when u say lr i hope u dont mean range rover range and ur comparing the discovery and land rover deffender to the lc.
when termin hard core off roading it is only the deffender of the 2.
deffender falls in a class of its own. with no rivals.
its history is legandry, due to its reliability.
wheare as a land cruiser is 2wice expensive, 3 times more powerfull and expensive.
u can compare a rangie to a lc but then all know rangie is street dwelled.

early versions came in alluminum body. so no worries about rust.
early versions came in 110 v electric power supply same as our house..in other words when u dont have lights u can power the main by connection to the vehicles electric supply.
reason why lr wer soo sucessfull because of their simplicity.
the engines came in a 2.2 l displacement no added features inside just plain simple gear cluster simple gear box with 4wd and nice seating capacity.
with the fuel economy of a mehran.......what else can u ask for
and their is no reason to compare it to the mamoth landcrusiers 4000 CC plus displacement and added luxury plus offroad features
