    Default Land Rover Project-Suggestions?

    A.o.A. guys,

I am looking to start a Land Rover project. Need your valuable input on what specs it should have.
The requirement is an SUV capable of,
reasonable speed on highways (say upto 100km/hr).
Capacity to carry 4-5 passengers with luggage.
Obviously should be 4wd but not meant for serious offroading.
Reasonably fuel & repairs economical with part availability. Reliability factor should be strong as it will be used for long distance journeys including off road travels.

A rough plan in my mind is to buy a kamani wali 110 Land Rover. Change its whole drive train with some toyota stuff. Put power steering, AC and some comfortable seats in it.

What do u guys say. Specially Shani, Storm, Offroad, Jeepaholic, Voyager, KMB please give your input.

Thanks for suggestion mekhattak, but it is a petrol vehicle with a high price tag, running & maintaining which may not be possible for me. Also parts may be a problem.

Shani Brother, why not leaf spring? Are engine parts expensive or the body parts?

@hashim, please tell the name & where abouts of this mechanic.

@Jeepaholic, Shahid bhai, I am a novice and have a limited knowledge. It is always wise to ask others opinion. Plan a trip near Lahore and hopefully I would be able to join with my M38.

How about a Toyota 3L engine with surf gear and differentials? Could anyone tell how much this combination will cost?

i agree with most of what shani said, only i'm also against conversions. as far as suspension is concerened, either way you'll eventually have a stiff back!

i should point out that if you are considering an engine swap than the range rover on sale on PW is worth it sinec you can swap out the engine and have a MUCH more comfortable ride. also i'm sure a few of us woudl buy the original engine off you from it.

sorry for jumping in so late. lemme know if ther is anything else needed from my side.

    Thanks Storm,

Am I right in understanding what you said that both leaf spring and coil spring are same with respect to comfort level? I thought that Land Rover coil springs are much much comfortable than leaf springs.
