Default Project SUV with a Budget of 300,000/-

Hi Everyone, Once upon a time I was considering getting a LR Discovery but the deal couldnt go through. This time I am exploring the option of building a decent multipurpose 4x4 SUV for Weekend Trips, Casual Offroading, and Daily use. I am considering getting a scrapped double cabin chassis of Toyota Hilux and rebuilding it as a project. Doing some initial research I have found out that it can be cone under my proposed budget of 300,000/- Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Or better yet if you have the hands on expertise and are willing to offer assistance in this project, I will be very obliged. My experience is limited to understanding the vehciles theortically (internet surfing) but have not taken up any project as yet - so this would be my first one. Thanks. p.s. I am based out of Karachi

Its a good idea and will require huge effort.

Best of luck with the project. Make this project a pictorial one so that people take interest and will definatly learn from you.

By making it pictorial I meant you can either start of by searching some pictures from the net as to what kind of an SUV do you have in mind to make.
    OR
You could start by posting pictures from the day you get your hands on the chasis from which you will start the build.

Keep it up and best of luck again.

get a 88 or 90 model if u can get it... single cab to be exact.. than u ca have a lotta fun... large variety of parts you can change them at will small big engines anything you want.. but the budget might cross 400 K
so good luck at least keep a 350K budget

    @Jazzman
my initial budget to get the wheels rolling is at 300,000/- but I am expecting to do ongoing refinements and addons as time goes on, hence would put in more money.

I was looking into a single cab also, but require seating for atleast 4 people. With a single cab I can transform it with roof all around it for additional seating, but would need some extra work. With double cabin, I wouldn't need to do additional modification to increase seating capacity. But I prefer the wheel base of single cab over double cab. You never know what I end up doing.

    nice thinking man!
but u see the single cab can be converted to do offroading asnd seating without the roof is the craze for offroad vehicle...
buy a 90 model single cab.. and than who knows you may end up having the coolest ride

I would suggest Toyota Land cruiser BJ 40. I saw couple of them for sale in Rawalpindi. They are Airforce Auctioned early eighties model original diesel and the demand was Rs.200,000 each. Need restoration.

Me too looking to start such project. Please keep us posted on your progress. What does your research says about the condition of vehicle you can get in 300,000? A running vehicle in bad condition? How much is expected to bring it in fine condition with 4wd, A/C, power steering working? Which engine etc?

    @saad_q

You can get a barely running condition 4x4s between 175k to 250k. To make it plush you can add another 100k for interior, exterior, and comfort modifications.

But do keep one thing in mind that the project would require extensive time and committment from your end to source parts and put it together. I am giving my project 3 months to get it to 75 % complete and for on road use after procuring the donor vehicle. The remaining 25% I will complete in 9 months time.

Options are Daihatsu Rocky, Toyota Hilux, CJ-5, CJ-7, MA38, Willies, Land Rover Defender, Range Rovers, Potohars.

Personally I would prefer working with Land Rover Defender or Toyota Hilux Double / Extended Cab, as you can refine them for on road use and as a daily runner.

In Lahore you can goto Bilal Ganj, or Travel upto Mandi Bahuddin or Rawalpndi to get some decent SUV / Offroaders.

    Major modifications would constitute

    Engine
    Transmission
    Suspension
    Fiberglass fabrication
    Seats
    Dash

    Well according to me
    1).Toyota Hilux
will be the most rocking to go with (but hard too and will be expensive i dont thing you can do it in budgeted money )

    2).CJ-5
my favorite i will suggest that you put a little bit more money in to it and you can get a perfectly fine cj-5 in 450k(it saves you form all the headache of finding parts and stuff)

    3).Potohar
i guess it can be the most easiest to do you can find many here and i dont think there is any problem of parts and stuff

4).ARMY Auctioned vehicles like some toyotas they will be really nice to own RKR or some thing (the one with the rangers and used by pak army you can see some roaming )

    BEST of Luck

I was actually asking about the Hilux double cab. Is it possible to find a bad condition 88-90 model Hilux double cab in 200,000?
