    Default Project SUV with a Budget of 300,000/-

    Hi Everyone, Once upon a time I was considering getting a LR Discovery but the deal couldnt go through. This time I am exploring the option of building a decent multipurpose 4x4 SUV for Weekend Trips, Casual Offroading, and Daily use. I am considering getting a scrapped double cabin chassis of Toyota Hilux and rebuilding it as a project. Doing some initial research I have found out that it can be cone under my proposed budget of 300,000/- Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Or better yet if you have the hands on expertise and are willing to offer assistance in this project, I will be very obliged. My experience is limited to understanding the vehciles theortically (internet surfing) but have not taken up any project as yet - so this would be my first one. Thanks. p.s. I am based out of Karachi

    @GTiR
    Its at Ali Motors in the Old Sabzi Mandi Market near Qauid-e-Azam Mazzar / Hassan Square Close to the Sales Tax Office.

    The vehicle was in pretty bad shape, the engine needs to be replaced as it has 450,000 KM on it and the body needs to be completely redone because its completely f***ed, as it was being used in a a marbel factory.

    The show room guy has given it to a near by workshop to fix it up. He mentioned that it would take him about 2 months to fix it. He is still willing to sell the vehicle on as is basis.

    @GTir

    It is an SSR double cabin with 4x4, but pretty bad shape. It is only worth for a project, but not currently in a drivable condition.

    AOA,
    Dear aisheikh Bhai,

    I have been following your thread for quite some time. My experiance while looking for a suitable 4x4 project have been the following.
    1- Toyota Hilux Double Cabin even old models are very hard to come by. Reason being that our Pathan brothers take the old 80's models to the border and have a mid 90's body bolted on top and Tara! it is brand new again. I have seen one in AL-Asif and my friend who is a mechanic there told me that it is very common practice indeed.
    You will truely be lucky to find one in 3lacs!
    2-Nissen Touble Cabins are the least costly of all double cabins as they have poor resale and one PakWheels CharterAli has got it in good shape for around 2.5lacs.
    These Nissen double cabins where in use mostly by SSGC and SNGPL and have been auctioned off.

    I hope this helps. I would have loved to be part of the project but I find myself out of country at the moment, so good luck with the project.

    Wasalaam,
    MHAMZA

    Hi guys, since all of you here seem to be 4X4 experts, I wanted an experts opinion on the fact; That I'm looking out to buy a 1995-96 5 door Pajero and put the Toyota D4D engine and tranny in it.

    Can someone tell me a fair cost estimate, as in how much would i be able to get the pajero for and then how much would the engine cost. Plus the suspension overhaul. I want to make an overall budget plan.

    How would you rate the 5 door as a 4x4...

    @petroljunkie 95/96 Pajero would cost you around 8lacs to 17lacs depending on condition and Series i.e
    Shogun(uk), Montero(usa), Pajero(simple), Exeed,or MMC(limited sports)...
    Toyota D4D engine+Transmission is really not a good idea. cause if you modify your vehicle then it would surely give you a big loss!!!!

    Hey, Ive been following your post right from its inception,
    Im also very interested in doing something similar when I have the cash, cant do it right now though, but would love to assist in any way, tell me where r u located exactly,
    also if you have any trips planned to get stuff like shershah etc, I'd love to come along.

    I can also refer you to an excellent jeep mechanic,
    a friend has recently rebuilt a CJ5, got the donor for about 2.5, it had pretty good body work and excellent brand new tires so was worth it,
    anyways so far he has spent 1 on top, costing him about 3.5 to 4, in which he got a new hilux engine, gearbox, suspension, powersteering and civic brakes,

    I drive his car when ever we meet and its pretty damn good.

    So let me know where u r, whats ur progress so far and lets get this show on the road, should be good fun.

    PS: Im in block 5, clifton

    thing with the hilux double cabin is that it lasts forever so even if its in horrible shape, it still demands a lot of money... it would be really awesome,
    u could also look for a mighty max pickup.. which is the mitsubishi one....
    the best would be to get a 3door landcruiser, old model and built that up.. or buy an already built cj7 and save ureself the trouble..

    Guys you wont believe where all I have been in and around Karachi to suite a donor vehicle

    I have visited Shershah twice, Liayari, Mangopeer, Baloach Colony (almost came under a cross fire), Saddar, Banaras, Nazimabad, Gulshan, and not to mention Defence where I live.

    @Faraz
    I am in Phase 6 DHA.

    I am looking to build something like this based on either a defener 110 Chassis or double cabin mid size pickup. Any suggestions, help, assistance would be highly appreciated.

    @PetrolJunkie

    From my guess a 1995 Pajero would run for around 600k, D4D Engine 500k, Other mods 300K

    In my opinion Pajeros are not that great offroaders.

    @MSM

    Thanks for the suggestion but SJ410 is a bit too small. I am looking for a vehicle which I can use for long trips, fit 4 to 5 people, and some luggage / equipment.

    I do have SJ410 in my mind based on the aspiration of participating in the Cholistan Desert Rally in the near future. But at the moment need a daily runner and liesure use 4x4.

    My Pajero 95 estimates are based on scrap, because PertrolJunkie seemed to be looking into doing a project.

    Agreed Mitsubishi's have performed well in the Paris Dakar Rallies in the previous years, but these vehicles are radically different from what you get for the road going vehicles.
