    Default DEFENDER Questions ??

    Can any of the Pak Wheelers who own or have owned Defenders give me some help & info please...esp Shani,Storm and Sajidd.

    1.Are Defenders expensive to mantain like parts,filters etc.

    2.Build quality of Pak assembeled vehicles because I have heard that the rivets come loose after some time & there is a lot of rattle in these cars.

    3.Comfort in tarmac driving especially long distance travel and city driving comparisons.
    4.Fuel averages.

    5.Lastly I am getting a 2005 defender 110 done 80000 kms a bit rough used but otherwise sound in 1250000 how is the deal considering I would like to keep it for good probably & use it as a family car.

    @sajidd
    how'd it go with the one we spoke about?

    @AsadJehangirKhan
    If you can live with discomfort, a noisy ride, useless heating and airconditioning all in the name of ruggedness,.. go ahead and buy a defender. however if you value your sanily run far far away.

    only good thing about sigma is their service which is the best in pakistan with no exception.

    @AsadJehangirKhan

    The 4x4 Guru's have explained in detail the pros and cons of having a Landy. Moral of the discussion: If u r not a hard core offroader go for a Toyota.

    I agree Land Rover is not very comfortable, but if you are not planing for an off-roader and family vehicle in ! unit than must go for Landy, bcoz it will take you beyond your imagination. otherwise get cruiser. Land Rover is now not very costly to maintain, bcoz its parts are available all over Pakistan, Genuine and replacement. 2004-5 Defender are bieng sold by some NGOs which have been used roughly. But all parts are vailable. One thing you must keep in mind "NEVER MAKE ANY ALTERATION IN LANDROVER" other wise you will not be able to sell it like sajidd. Its beauty is in its genuinness.

    LR Defender

    There was absolutely no mechanical alternation in my Defender. The engine was left as is.

    There was upgrades like suspension and interior but thoese REQUIRED to make the ride bearable.

    You have no idea the kind of land rover I had and its ride and comfort capability were unlike ANY OTHER DEFENDER in Pakistan. How many people in Pakistan do you know who have run a 110 in a rally and actually attained a podium position just 2 minutes behind a souped up Prado? So if none other, I atleast can comfortably comment on my Defender.

    If you visit landrovernet.com or d-90.com, that most of the defender owners have made many many many modifications to their vehicles. Basically the sample design of land rover allows you to do so, and by the way many of them have ARB suspensions. The army specs springs that come as stock is not fit for humans. AgainI am in a position to say so, because I had extensively driven both stock and ARB and ARB cakes the cake anyday as it enchanes comfort and capability much beyond stock springs and shocks.

    Having said all this and now having driven a Land Cruiser 105, I must say that LC are just as capable, they will take you any where where a Defender 110 can go, and bring you back, all that comfortably.

    I must confess that Land Rovers are still very near and dear to my heart, and if I get an opportunity to buy a decent soft top 90, I'd do it in a heart beat and then once again do it all up. Not because its capable, but more because its a romance, a romance for Defenders that I have since Defender was my first off roader.

    Dont worry about its low resale, thats just how things work in Pakistan. Mine actually was bought at a decent price. However I did not get any extra money for all the extras I had put in, ie suspension, grill, interior, uprated intercooler etc..

    Regards
    Sajid...for now a Toyota Fan.. and a big time at that (-:

    Defender has an excellent fuel consumption. I got almost 9 kilometers to a liter at time.

    So far I have not worked on the Toyota's but I think the LJ should give me about 8 and the LC about 7

    My Prado 3400 VX gives around 6 KM/L on petrol. I have no idea about diesel engines but 9 KM/L seems to be too much as it is a very heavy vehicle.

    Ehtesham...Diesel Power (-:

    Yeah diesel vehicles usually give better fuel consumption than Petrol. Remember Defender engine is fairly small, 2.5 liter, but is packed with torque..

    @LRDefender
    Rizwan, if you don't know anything about preparing a vehicle for offroad use (which you clearly don't), please refrain from commenting on others vehicles. Sajid had one of the most capable defenders in all of pakistan (if not the most).

    How would you like it if we all commented on the state of the vehicles being sold by Askari Automobiles??

    I agree with most of the comments of sajidd as he worked a lot on his ex-ride. Defenders are more efficient in fuel consumption. I got 9 to 10 km / ltr. But Storm you cant understand romance of Land Rover, I have refurbished a Defender 90 Model 1988 which I got from chitral. I spent over 14 months to rebuild this cute black Rover. Check it here;

    I understand that One must have extra ordinary patience to keep a Defender, bocz its parts are not easily vailable very where as compared with LC. Sajidd's romance might be over but my romance is on.
