i bought a 2005 sportage last year. am quite happy with it. if i stay off the turbo then i get 11 km/lt with turbo being used most of time i get 9 km/l. it's great value for money and suprisingly good off-road. sportage is very popular in australia and mid-west in the usa. i don't know what other fully loaded 4x4 you can get for less than 15 lacs nowadays. so once again GREAT VALUE. no major problems with it so far. little things keep popping up...a squeak here...a rattle there...served me well in the rains last year and the crappy roads...i have a long commute to work....i say if you need the extra space, comfort, safety then go for it...keep it for 5 years at least and the resale will adjust itself...good luck

In Karachi, my neighbour bought 2 month ago Kia Sportage for Rs.580,000 model 2004, after buying he changed radiator, intercooler turbo and some small stuff, now he is facing back compression problem... Infact someone said wrong abt mileage on turbo in DIESEL.. on turbo in DIESEL u get boost of power plus economy .. turbo don't eat ur fuel it run through ur car exhaust!

Not a good buy Sportage coz lots of engine noise and high maintenance!

Resale value wont hurt you as you are going to buy a used car, the initial owner would have already absorbed the resale value loss! But in its price, its a great 4x4.

    inspire1501:
    1) only take advice from a KIA sportage owner
    2) whatever car you look at make sure it has good maintenance records. in diesel engines regular oil changes are of UTMOST IMPORTANCE
    3) make sure the car has been maintained by certified dealers, in karachi Hyundai Motors on Sharah-E-Faisal and Sherwani Motors are the only two certified KIA dealers i know of
    4) make sure the car was owner driven and not in the hands of the office or family driver
    5) there are immaculate kia sportages on the roads of karachi that are years old and still look and sound brand new. so make sure you choose wisely.

Inspire: i suggest you read up on how turbos work and how they effect fuel consumption

i have been using a sportage 2002 for 4 months now.

    weak points are:
    1-front 4WD vaccum hubs
2-poor climb in hilly areas (1-2 gear)
    3-power windows need servicing
    4-expensive kia dealer repairs
5-diesel injectors need adjustment to control smoke
6-headlights-i replaced mine with 42w HIDs

    good points are:
1-2000 cc engine gives better consumption, all sportages have Mazda rf engines with kia turbos and intercoolers
    2-air conitioner
    3-decent SUV under 700,000
4-cheap repair at local mazda workshops
    5-comfortable interior and ride
    6-great drivability
