One of my friend own the japanese assembled alto 660cc.
Infact i agree with all above that it is under powered car due to small engine but has an EFI engine with better performance in city and highways. Fuel consumption is less giving more milage than its competitor 1000 cc alto.
On CNG it sucks due to its small engine where as on patrol it feels better.
Only issue is the braking, as the cars arent designed for natural gas, so when driving on CNG + AC, it brakes dont work well. one may be extra careful while driving. The same issue persists in 1000 cc alto.
A 2005 Japanese (automatic) alto avg of 32000 km costs around 380-415.

I bought an alto 2002 for my families use in Oct 2007 and am really satisfied. It comes with all features that u get in Honda VTi or Corolla Altis like ABS, dual airbags, powered stuff including electric power steering, keyless entry, CD changer etc.
I have driven it on M1 and M2 as well and the performance was OK. You should not expect much from a 660 cc DOHC engine. The car is best suited for local drive and occasional long drives.
I am using it on petrol so no problems of pick or brakes.

I have driven 2 Auto Transmission Altos of 2004 and one manual of 2004.
They r superb, Manual has better pick and consumption.
I travelled on motorway with constant speed of 125 from Peshawar to Islamabad and back.
