Default Car starts but wont stop when the key is taken out

Hi, I was wondering if someone can help me,
I have an '85 Landcruiser which Im currently in the process of restoring,
last night while driving back from my mechanic a strange thing happened,
the engine starts, the car drives but when I turn the key to switch off the engine, it doesn't switch off, I even took the key out of the ignition and it didn't switch off!!!
Could some body please tell me what's wrong with the car and how the problem can be alleviated.

    Regards,
    Faraz.

A diesel engine does not require electrical input to keep running. The engine does not require an ignition system.

When you turn off the engine, a diesel cutoff valve in the fuel pump physically restricts the diesel from flowing forward, and that is how the engine shuts off.

Either this valve is faulty or the connections to it are not working.

    Cheers.

    Thanks a lot guys,
and thank God it's not catastrophic,
Im at the point now when even a puncture is considered to be sabotage and a huge catastrophy since the restoration process is very taxing on the mind and more so on the wallet but this sounds good.

    Cheers...
