Default 1985 Toyota Landcruiser Problems, need help/advice

    Hi people,
I have a unique problem with my car and I'm hoping someone can help out,
    I have a Lancruiser BJ74 (1985 model with a B13-T engine) and it has a 24 volt electrical system.

There seems to be a problem perhaps with the wiring as the vehicle discharges excessively when the engine is not switched on, it seems the voltage is leaking excessively or being sapped up by something which I can't figure out.

Even if all electrics are turned off when the key is left at the ACC position, the batteries discharge almost completely within 10-15 mins, and if the headlights are on , the batteries discharge within 3 to 4 minutes to such a low level that the vehicle cannot be restarted unless jumped.

I have already had the alternator and fan belt replaced but the problem persists,

does anyone know a highly efficient electrician in Karachi who is proficient in a 24 volt electrical system or does anyone know what the cause of this problem is???

The second issue I have is that this is my primary mode of transport and I cannot afford to leave it at a workshop for more than a day really,
so I need not only an efficient and proficient electrician but also one who can work faster than a speeding bullet.

In summation, if anyone has experienced similar problems please share the causes or if anyone know such a Superelectrician, could I please have his contact details.

    Any help is really appreciated,
    thanks,

    Faraz.

    AOA,

    Dear Faraz,

This problem is not specific to the voltage system it happens in 12V DC systems as well. There seems to be some lose wire touching the body or electrical ground that provides an electrical path for your battery circiut to discharge itself. It can easily be detected by any electrician. I had a similar problem in my CJ7 a few months ago when I forgot to tape off one wire that had 12V + and it drained the battery over night.
I can recommend you a competent electrician in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Bl-5 but he is not bullet fast. Maybe if you are lucky he will put an end to your troubles in a couple of hours.
You may call me on my cell any time 0301-2281413
if you decide to visit him.

Hamza thanks a lot for your input, I will Inshallah definitely give u call and perhaps see your electrician, I really don't mind spending the day with the electrician so 2 - 3 hours really is not a problem at all,
I'll call you after work either today or tomorrow and with your recommendation go to visit him.
The electrician in my area (DHA / Clifton) says he will need the car for a few days which is not possible for me as I need the car for my line of work and will have the re-wire the whole thing, which I can not afford in neither time nor money (he said it will cost like 10k or something like that).

    Sir,

I could see from your avatar that your LC is ready and on the road. Could you please share some recent photos ? I am a great fan of this vehicle and would love to see some photos.

    Thank you.
