@Alvis,,thanks for the added info..i thought Generals commanding more than 1 armies at same time at diff fronts were Field Marshals.
Every one wants to go to Heaven , But Nobody wants to die..fact isnt it ?
The origin of the rank of field marshal dates to the early Middle Ages, originally meaning the keeper of the king's horses (from old German Marh-scalc=horse-servant") from the time of the early Frankish kings.
Muhammad Ayub Khan (Urdu/Pashto: ???? ???? ???), GCMG, MBE, HJ, NPk, (May 14, 1907 – April 19, 1974) was a Field Marshal during the mid-1960s, and the President of Pakistan from 1958 to 1969. He became Pakistan's first native Commander in Chief in 1951, and was the youngest full-rank general and "SELF-APPOINTED" field marshal in Pakistan's military history. He was also the first Pakistani military general to seize power through a coup.
Thanks for correct info sir.
It is correct
By the way jeep looks nice...........and "SELF-APPOINTED" field marshal in Pakistan's military history. He was also the first Pakistani military general to seize power through a coup. ...........
Wonderful photos. Do notice the style and character difference between the current generals compared to the generals of the 50's and 60's. The current senior generals travel in a convoy of jeeps which are mostly luxury jeeps. Perhaps an indication of the army used to comforts now.
old is gold....

One of the Doxiadis engineers did a book on the early days of Islamabad recently and I remember seeing similar photos in there. For those of you who may not know, the Greek firm Doxiadis Associates won the tender to make Islamabad's Master Plan.
Some trivia; Gerard Brigden was the Chief Architect. His son, John Brigden brought the Himalyan Rally 2006 to Islamabad. Some of you may remember the vintage cars flag off from the Serena Hotel in early 2006. Small world! His partner in the firm Roarr, Conrad, drove to Pakistan in a 1970 MGB in September this year! Details and photos on the VCCCP thread.
imagine if some general keeps it now adayz

Could not verified but have heard that usually Field Marshals are generals those have seized some enemies city.
Ayub Khan has obviously taken over the whole Pakistan.
If you walk away from your car and don't look back, you have bought the wrong car.
Ayub Khan didnt impose Martial Law, its a historic injustice to him, the above qo=uote is from WikipediaHe would later go on to serve in the second cabinet (1954) of Muhammad Ali Bogra as Defence Minister, and when Iskander Mirza declared martial law on October 7, 1958, Ayub Khan was made its chief martial law administrator. This would be the first of many instances in the history of Pakistan of the military becoming directly involved in politics.
Nice old days
It's been a long journey
