    Default G Class BLING Project

    Inspired by DeeDee's Unimog Punga Project, I am exploring options to get into a project. My requirements is to have a vehicle with the following capabilities: -City Driving for Daily Use -Trail Driving for Offroad -Luggage Capacity for Weekend & Long Trips -Creature Comfort -Minimum 7 passenger capacity Following is my budget: -Project Vehicle acquisition: 200,000/- -Monthly available funding :
    100,000/- x 3 Months
    Total Budget available :
    500,000/-
    Project options that I am considering are: -MB G - Class 5 Door Diesel -LR Defender 110 5 Door Diesel G Class BLING Project -568542
    G Class BLING Project -568543
    I would request all the members to give advice and suggestions on the above options, and most importantly where I can source these vehicles for my Project. My preference is the MB G Class as it can be converted into a proper SUV with the G55 AMG looks.

    In that case it has to be a G ....forget the landrover.
    I hope you find one soon.
    By the way there is one issue with the G wagen.... supension travel is limited (articulation of the axel if you are on uneven surface) maybe this is why they have front and rear lockers

    I am definitely considering upgrades to make it a capable offroad vehicle and a multip purpose SUV.

    Once I have this vehicle in my hands I would seek suggestions in upgrading it stages.

    Areas for considerations are:
    Mechanical
    -Suspension Travel and Articulation (long travel)
    -Low end Torque
    -Top Speed (keen on 300TD engine)
    -Breaking distance (disk breaks)
    -Approach and Departure angles
    -Water wading capabilities (safari snorkel)
    -Gearing ratios and differential locking (5 speed with auto / limited hub locking)

    Comfort
    -Cabin Seating and Noise
    -AC
    -Power steering

    and the is list would go on. My 500K budget is only for the mechanics. The creature comfort is extra cost that I would bare from time to time to upgrade the vehicle.

    Thanks for the support.

    You are better off getting parts from Thokar. There are atleast 2 junkyards / dealers on Multan road. When you get off from canal onto thokar just make a right onto Multan Road. Keep a lookout on your right and left side about a kilometer from Thokar.

    I hav checked the showroom today and that ride is still available and up for sale. Asking 3 lac, white color, with average condition (exterior and interior) and a 2L engine. Sorry i was unable to take the pics for you. But, you can call at the cell no sent you through email, the guy named Nisar Ahmad, and please ask him about the mercedese and don't ask him about G class as he is only the person working at showroom and not the owner.

    Tomorrow I am heading out to Faisalabad to check out the G-Class Candidate. It supposedly is not in good condition, and criminally it has been transplanted with a 2L engine :-(

    By the way does anyone know of the availability of a 300TD or 350TD Mercedes Diesel Engines here in Lahore or around the vicinity. Also where can one source parts for the suspension, breaks, transmission, diffs, and axle bearings?

    I just called the showroom guy to reconfirm the details on G-Class. Previously he had mentioned that the engine was Toyota 2L but the Transmission & Gear Box was Original. Now he is stating that even the transmission & gearbox is Toyota.

    I guess then its not work going all the way to Faisalabad to check the vehicle.

    You wont be doing any good even if you install a 300TD or a 350TD. You should stick with the 2.9 or the 2.5 NA.

    I know someone who has experimented with a 2.5 td but it hardly made any difference so he went back to the original 2.9l. No matter what engine you put in these old G's they will still be slow if you keep the original diffs and tranny. Thats how they has been designed.... for power not speed.

    And about the turbo engines, the 300TD. I dont know which one are you talking about the 5 cylinder or the newer 6 cylinder om606 with ecu. There are very rare and will cost you like 3-4 lacs with ecu and all. And i dont think it will still work cuz its too complicated for these desi mechinics to work on.

    The older 5 cylinder 300TD should not be a problem, its commonly available and mostly transplanted in the W126.

    The 350TD was mainly marketed is the US, and as far as I remember that emgine has some designed issue due to which it suffered from very early engine failures. You should carry out ur own research! Cheers!

    Thanks for the info. I have come across a 1982 G Class in Islamabad which has been transplanted with an Year 2001 engine 300GD and is supposedly in immaculate condition, but asking is 1.5 Million (way out of my league)

    Any idea on where I can get a decent G Class in my budget and then maybe I can change the engine with a 300GD.
