Default A Question about 2009 Land Cruiser GX-R

    Hello there,

I have come to Kuwait about 4 months ago. Due to the economic downturn the prices of cars globally have crashed. For example Toyota is giving 45% discount on the list price on all its vehicles (and toyota is the best selling brand in Kuwait).

I am thinking that I will but a Land Cruiser and then after two years bring in back to Pakistan under the Transfer of Residence (TR) scheme. I dont think that such low prices are going to be a permanent feature.

I have finalized the vehicle to be Toyota Land Cruiser (GX-R) with a 4.5L Diesel Engine (1VD-FTV) and most accessories. The price is coming out to be 14,000 Dinars (37 Lac Rupees). The only issue is that all vehicles in Kuwait (or for that matter Gulf region) are Left Hand Drive (LHD). Therefore, I have to convert the jeep to RHD for Pakistan. Any idea if it is feasible? I am told that too many people in UAE and Pakistan can do it. Are these people professionals (competence wise?). Is is recommend to make such conversions? Any idea what the cost may be like?

I will only be buying the land cruiser if it makes sense for me to send it to Pakistan. Otherwise, I will just go for some other cheaper SUV (Parado, Yukon, Tahoe, Grand Cheroke, etc.).

I am looking forward to hearing from the learned memebers of this forum.

    regards,

    Rommel

not sure but i think ur not gonna get this done on a 09 lc...its too new for the mechanics to work on it...this is an option for old cars though...!!!

plus bringing it to pakistan wud cost u almost as much tax as the price of the car itself...!!!

it'll be better if you get it done from there. Plus, it shouldn't be a problem. The hardest part is to get the interior as it was before, and since your car also comes as a RHD vehicle in other countries, you can always import new interior parts.

But i recomend you dont go ahead with this. Sell the car off, in Kuwaiat, and buy another car when you get here. A mid-size sedan perhaps.

    Dear Stud_Atis,

When you say it is not feasible, do you mean it is technically not feasible?

Don't worry about the import and customs related issues, as I will import it legally and I have all the paperwork.

Bro, Dont even think of converting a 2009 from LHD to RHD especially if you think that it can be done in Pakistan. There are very few 09's in Pakistan and no mechanic understands it as its way over complicated for our mechanics. Regards.

Murtaza, I do not want to go for the Jeep as there was no diesel version available and I want a vehicle that I can bring to Pakistan.

    @rommel
    Welcome to PW

firstly it will be highly difficult to convert LHD TO RHD
IMHO if u buy a car dont convert it as most of the Humvees and corvettes and many other imported cars in pak are LHD so no problemof that.

but what is this Tranfer of residence scheme?
How much Custom Duty you have to pay for it
and can u tell me roughly how much Shipping charges would be there just a rough idea..
i hear about the TR scheme few years..and someone said that u dont have to pay any custom duty?
