Default Lets design a SUV ourself

I know it will sound like a joke to all of you so lets start it like a "Game". Looking at our neighbour India, I think why cant we design a nice SUV? Participation of all is requested please. Your input is required in keeping in view the usage in Pakistan:

    Initial questions would be:

    1. What size do you suggest?

    2. What engine size ?

    3. Diesel, petrol, CNG, LPG, Ethenol etc ?

4.What features would you suggest in the vehicle?

    5. etc.etc.etc?
To all the extreme drivers, please come offroad like ME to keep others safe on the roads.

This setup is good for on road & softroad driving. Its not helpful for serious off-roading. Those who have been to UAE & have seen dune bashing & stuff....they will confirm that BMW X5s are hardly seen doing anything called serious off-roading and they do come with low profile tires & biggest dia wheels in its class. Although there is an additional issue of transfercase with X5s as well.

Serious off-roaders need more rubber on the wheels as traction & footprint is more important for them than high speed cornering.

Hi friends I am back, thanks for continuing the input. Starting with basics what are the different ambient conditions in Pakistan which are not kept in mind by the world manufacturers while designing their vehicles? i.e. our road conditions, ambient temperature etc.

I mean when a car is made it is not designed for Pakistani roads as we have all these "khadas" causing the car to breakdown much earlier. So we can design our vehicles to stand these problems.

@all I will be replying to your inputs one by one soon.

You are very correct @abhatti. Some of those Sheikh Chillis have even managed to leave Pakistan in search of their dreams.

Good thinking, yes why cant we do it? make it affordable for the public.
1.Size: 8 seater with minimum weight(not compromizing on safety)

2.Engine size: enough power with max economy.

    3. Fuel: Ethenol, bio diesel etc. anything which our country can produce itself. Ethenol is being produced at sugarmills in Pakistan.

    4. Features? I will comeup with a lot soon.

    .

It may have something to do with seeing the Mercedes star on the hood guiding the way, the Benz specific solid feel, the Power, the Looks, the Prestige, but whatever it is, its intoxicating!!

I left the country b/c that country did not need me, I took off to go where people needed. I do not regret at my decison at all. In fact I am more benfical to pakistan b/c I am still contributing to Pakistan by sending remittence back to my family and now a days foriegn exchange sent by many overseas paskitanis like me is a big source of income for our coountry I believe it is now top the list so you can't say I am a sheikh chilli.

You would not know that I am actually associate with Toyota Canada, designing an automobile is a very skilled job it takes years to develop a designer. You can probably design a kit car over this forum but if you are seriously in commercial vehicle designing there are many steps and very hight level of skill needed just merely talking about motor size and wheel base size is not gona get you there, I already seen few lousy forum like this one on this website where some over excited people posting with out even knowing what they are talking about. If cars could be design over forums all big OEMs would have wraped up and goan home. Thats all my five cnets and good luck.

the 2008 G55 offers EVERYTHING you could ask for in an SUV. on and offroad performance is unmatched, looks are to die for (and simple to manufacture) and the exhaust note/performance are straight out of a supercar. if i had to choose 1 car for the rest of my life, it'd be a 2008 G55,.. the earlier models wern't all supercharged and the later models look too dandy with the "american" facelift.

function over fashion, i've always believed it and this car prooves it.

    AOA.

I have been following this thread since its start.. I will second abhatti that cars cannot be designed over any forum..However... jeepaholic started an idea that made a few people dream..... And dreams make all successful men reach those unimaginable hieghts. So let us dream sir... Maybe some designer in Canada might get inspired by one of our amateur sketches.. Maybe not.. .

That being said, lets dream realistically... Fancy G Wagons, those 7.2 L V10s, those curvy exteriors, etc. are not practical or doaable on any scale here... I would start with something available in the market then do some mods to the body and engine etc.. . Thats just what I think..

@abhatti.. Forums are not lousy, its the people in the forums that may be so that comment hit a bit hard.. ..

    Thanks
