Indian Government does all 3 of these and they have jumped light years ahead of Pakistan in automotive sector :/
I agree with the rest of your statement, but the bolded part is not that easy. Yes, govt. can facilitate, provide incentives, etc but at the end of the day, its the foreign companies that has to decide whether or not they want to invest here. Govt cannot "bring" more assemblers out of the blue.

And talking about India, there's a hell of a difference. The reason you see so many companies manufacturing (and even exporting) is because of the size of the market. Pakistan sells around 1.25 lac passenger cars per year while India sells around 2.5 million....thats a 20 fold bigger market.

We already have 3 manufacturers in Pakistan. A fourth competitor cannot co-exist here but its only hope will be to ouster an existing one. Investing in pakistan means getting your share out of 1.25 lac cars(or on an average 40k cars per yr even if its extremely successful like Indus).

As a comparison (assuming for arguments sake that there exists 10 manufacturers already) in India, the 11th manufacture gets (on average) above 2 lac sales per year.

So who in their right mind would consider investing in Pakistan?

Currently the NANO is exported to Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal and Sri Lanka in South Asia. Recently, the Brazilian Govt. formally issued a licence to TATA Motors to set up a NANO plant in Brazil. TATA Motors is in the process of setting up a NANO plant in Eastern Europe. To mention though that the NANO to be sold in Europe and Latin America will be more likely the "Europa" version and not the Indian market version. This is an update on the NANO's journey through our planet.

You can google all of the above for more details, including a NANO that caught fire in Sri Lanka but finally public is catching on that there's somethimg more to this than the car itself and it hasn't affected sales there. Some say allegedly that the strike that crippled Maruti-Suzuki's Swift production was TATA's way of getting even.

The NANO is approaching similar status to the Beetle here in India as Bangalore held it's first official NANO meet organized by TATA Motors and plans are being made to spread such meets across the country. I'm planning to attend the Chennai meet and will bring a report.

i think tata nano would be more successful in other countries ( like pak) than in india due to alrready stiffer competition here ...but its a great car ..love it specially lx with alloys and spoiler.

We should welcome new entrants to the Pakistani market. Competition is good for consumers. But it's unlikely Tata is going to sell the car here. The reason is that this thread is already 2 years old and I have yet to see a single yellow nano on the streets of Karachi!

The Tata Nano was on display at "The India Show" @ Lahore Expo centre today... unfortunately I couldn't make it there on time and today was the last day or I would have taken some pics to post.

Anyone else happen to be there or know details of when the Nano will be launched in Pak?

perhaps, Tata will export Nano from Bangladesh to Pakistan. IIRC, the local agent in Bangladesh is interested in setting up a Assembly plant.

while, Indian Automobile industry entering Pakistan officially will take years(if ever).
