Vortec 8100 V8 Engine
The Big Block Vortec 8100 V8 engine in Avalanche 2500 delivers 325 horsepower and 447 lb.–ft. of torque at 3200 rpm. The engine is matched with a Hydra–Matic electronically controlled four–speed automatic transmission with overdrive and has these standard features:
Coil–Near–Plug Ignition System
All Vortec V8 engines feature an ignition coil for each cylinder to precisely deliver a high–energy spark for lower emissions and higher efficiency.
High-Strength Crankshaft
A high–strength cast–iron crankshaft is internally balanced and has undercut and rolled fillets to reduce stress loads. This design provides quiet running and reduces maintenance.
Electronic Throttle Control (ETC)
ETC relays acceleration information to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The PCM then positions the throttle butterfly valve in the best position to help achieve smooth linear acceleration.
Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
A PCM utilizes computer technology to continuously measure driver inputs and behavior to marry (or match) power needs with the transmission shift schedule. This system collaboration ensures that the transmission never has to “search” for the correct gear, thus maximizing performance and efficiency.
Sequential Fuel Injection (SFI)
SFI is employed by all Vortec V8 engines and provides reliable starting in hot or cold weather. SFI also contributes to the smooth, refined operation of all Vortec V8 engines.
