Default The Best Car for Pakistan. Design Forum Results

    Dear members,

Further to our last post, "What Car is Best for Pakistan" here are the highlights of the Pakwheels Discussion Forums held in Lahore at Peral Continental Hotel & Islamabad at Serena Hotel on what would be the ideally suited car for Pakistan.

It seems to us that there is huge void in the car market for a demand which is not being met by the current automotive manufacturers based in Pakistan. This has lead to a generation of interest in building a car for the Pakistani market which fulfils the needs for the average people in Pakistan. We are proud to announce that the following features have been discussed, however we must point out that these features are currently pending finalisation.

    • Target market: salaried middle class (largest numbers of buyers in this market segment)
    • Low-range price for target market
    • Seating for 4+ adults (Pakistani family biased seating)
    • Ample luggage storage & cubby holes
    • Large service intervals (less time and money spent at workshops)
    • Recyclable parts (environmentally friendly)
    • Very low running costs per mile
    • Ample ride height (due to bad road conditions outside major cities)
    • Small engine capacity (fuel economy)
    • CNG fitted (currently the fuel of choice)
    • Traditional looking (no cost-ineffective designing, but an attractive shape)
    • Tyres should be regular (air-filled) - Eco/high mileage tyres
    • Basic seating arrangement (Low cost)
    • CD player? MP3 player? (Possibly an option to reduce costs)
    • No frills car (no need for accessories which would raise the basic production cost)
    • Regionally based name (pending – must be easy to pronounce)

    Pictures to follow shortly.

We would greatly appreciate your feedback on the above mentioned points to further improve and fine tune this information & the cars proposed features as we are very enthusiastic in this endeavour and would like to know what the customers would want.

We are striving to make mobility a feasible option for our people in the near future.

    Sincerely,
    -

Well, thts highly remarkable I must say. Its an optimized frame for an ideal car for the middle class ppl in Pakistan who r far more concerned for ther commution needs rather for perfomance. But I do want to suggest tht the quality of the car shuld be value for money. And, it shuld hav tht Brand Factor kinda thingo or tht OOmph thingo I don no wat they call it as I am not a marketing guy, tht thing which make all the entry level low priced cars popular such as corolla, golf, focus, mehran, nd all tht, a certain degree of distitinctive identity.

My expression is a bit vague but I hope ya can understand tht.

Btw, No Offence meant but Sheheryar Bhai looks cute .

Nice work, AGAIN Agha...don't you ever rest?

    Actually, I'm uglier than I thought ;(

And BTW charterali, I'm married, so back off!

It was a great event. This was the Islamabad meet at the Executive Suites in the Serena Hotel.

But I must say I have some personal struggles here. I wanted a radically different aesthetic shape for optimum efficiency and high technology...MAN! everyone ganged up on me and told me to back down...I am still reeeling from it...

So what do those of you think who couldn't make it? Radical efficiency, or traditional? These radical designs add no cost, so it is merely driven by market acceptance.

I feel we need to put a "Pakistani Panache" to the design, and high tech it has to be, because that's just me...I think Shueyb stated it best in another post, a signature for Pakistan for the rest of the world to see, like Nokia mobile phones, or Apple's I-pod for their respective countries.

@timelessfahad - I think you mean "easy to maneuver steering in traffic".

That doesn't necessarily mean power steering if you are a capable Design Engineer starting with a clean sheet approach...hmmmmm, huh?

    @Motown
how about we have both, use the traditional to reel in the Radical. I hope get what I am trying to say, coz if we make car which a regular mechanic cannot fix or have the knowhow, it might back fire in our face. Or we can have training sessions in the cities for mechanics to be friendly towards the technology we are trying to implement. Its late now, I better explain it in the morning, Lol!

Really nice effort and well done all. Everyone or most of the people want a car which gives maximum output and pleasure with minimum costs to run and maintain it.

I think whatever car is made and launched into Pakistan market, would attract the customers if it is backed up by an extensive network of workshop with highly trained and curteous staff offering services and parts at reasonable prices. The dealers/service network should not be there to fleece customers and charge five-star style, like the present one are doing.

So I think a winning combination would be:

1- Good performance car, with conservative looks and ample space, stiff body and a robust engine.

2- Fuel efficient, multifuel Petro/CNG, here comes designing. Gas bottle must not be in the trunk.

    3- A revloutionary service network
Be polite on the road. Always give way to others, particularly ambulances and pedestrians.

    Look forward to these options;-

    - Fuel Economy
    - Luggage Space
    - Seating Capacity
    - Large Service Interval
    - CNG (Option?)

And what comes to my mind is that even if its a Box On Wheels (BOW), it shud be a success as it is the need of today, whether its in Pakistan or wherever in the world.

The name should not be less then an Iquilab!

@Agha...nice summary of all the data.

Racerf1 said exactly what I have been trying to say all along. First hook the buyers with something tradational looking with some radical features and when they are hooked then start changing it from there on. A sudden change is always hard to digest.

I think this topic should converge on other PW members who were not present in the meeting.

Lets find out wat they have to say about it.

As for the name, i suggest SAWARI . Why not... If if it cud be CARRY or FIT then it cud be sawari too.
