    Red Bull seeks FIA clarification as Renault teams lose exhaust concession

    Sebastian Vettel fastest in final practice
    Sebastian Vettel put the ongoing exhaust rules row behind him to put Red Bull Racing on top in the first dry practice session of the British Grand Prix weekend at Silverstone.

    i was watching the qualifying... Silverstone looked good or was it because i was watching F1 quali after a long time ?? ... but i was more pi**ed than ever listening to Steve Slater.. man he's just gotten even worse ..

    anyway, delayed rain just before the quali was about to end, ended any chance of ALO challenging RBRs ... but i m impressed by Silverstone and Maldonado.. good going..

    Exclusive Bernie Ecclestone on Vettel Domination of F1 Newscorp And Succession

    On Wednesday I went to the headquarters of Formula One Management at Princes Gate to interview Bernie Ecclestone for Australian Network 10 Television.

    We spoke of many things and I put to him some of the questions I’ve heard from fans – not least at the recent FOTA Fans Forum events we organsised – to do with F1′s reluctance to expand into social media and where the balance lies between entertainment and sport.

    * Sebastian Vettel’s current domination of F1
    * The balance between entertainment and sport
    * His sparring match with Jean Todt
    * His attitude to F1 content on the internet and mobiles
    * The NewsCorp bid for F1
    * The succession plan
    * Why he thinks F1 doesn’t need a new Concorde Agreement

    You can listen to the full interview at the bottom of this post on Soundcloud, with a very interesting exchange about the Senna movie and what it has done for F1. But here are some of the highlights.

    @m_waqas
    Yes, Silverstone is looking good with its new pit complex and start finish line. I specially like the grass patch in the pitlane between Pit Wall and Pit Box and garages.

    In a nutshell, yes FIA is doing what they are best at doing that is creating controversy by allowing 2 different sets of regulations. FIA should not have gone for this ban mid season when they don't have a slightest idea how they will police it. As Charlie Whiting agreed himself that all the engines are working differently how could you apply a ban which could even results in reliability concerns such as Mercedes and Renault.

    Renault is using this 50% off throttle to cool down their exhaust valves while Mercedes needs 10% hot blowing during off throttle to control crank shaft pressure. Renault's system was in place from 2009 so how could this been counted as illegal 2 1/2 years after its introduction now.

    In hot blowing exhaust, fuel is injected even when the driver is off throttle while in cold blowing exhaust only air is allowed to pass into the exhaust and no fuel is injected at all.

    FIA when announced to introduce this ban, Renault and RedBull were the first to criticise it by saying that it could give them reliability problem but FIA did not listen to them. RedBull even asks them to change sidepods so that cooling system of RBR could be upgraded to counter the ban but were denied by FIA. FIA on the racing weekend allowed Renault teams to run 50% off throttle exhaust while Mercedes teams were allowed to use 10% overrun to avoid crank shaft problem but it leads to a controversy between RedBull and McLaren as they both thinks other is benefitted with the rule.

    FIA on the day of qualifying, takes back the concession they give to Renault teams and later they decided to take the whole ban off if all the teams agreed unanimously to drop this ban idea. I hope they will drop this ban because otherwise FIA's action will taint this year's championship for no apparent reason.
