They were assembling Chevy Joy too, but i guess it was being assembled at the Gandhara nissans plant, which wasnt being used by Nissan
Get over the fact that Xli lacks power windows, Its an Xli because it lacks thoose features or else it would be a Gli or an Altis if had all the goodies.

well i dint knew that , thanks for telling.

the thing is , the duty on CKD ( completely knocked down ) kits is 32.5 %

as compared to a roughly 100%

so overall , when accumulated with the cost , the price comes down by 30%+ , and inline with the local competition.

this 2.0 million civic would reach 2.8 million if you import it brand new from abroad , just do your math by checking USDM / JDM and you'll know

^^ Local assembled Joy was sold around the same price of alto (just slightly higher) till 2009. It was much better than alto when it was being sold as it:-

    1. It offered a modern EFi engine vs a 1980 era globally obsolete engine of alto.
    2. It had power steering. (missing in alto/cultus vxr)
    3. It had front power windows, and driver side power mirror. (missing in alto/cultus vxr)
    4. It came with a rear mister and rear wiper. (missing in alto, rear wiper missing in cultus)
    5. No premium or OWN/ open booking for all.
    6. Built quality was better compared to alto and cultus.

despite being at the same price tag as alto, people were still not willing to buy the JOY but rather paid heavy amounts on OWN to buy Suzuki Altos and Cultus. So my point is even if the cruze is assembled locally and priced at the same level as altis/civic it will still be very difficult to break the market.

    ^^

    rightly said.

its a price dominated market here , and the mass market is attracted to factors like

    resale
    cheap maintenance

but that is mostly for the middle classed consumers.
    who believe in

    chalti ka naam gaadi..

however , the upper class is like totally the opposite , and i assume is somewhat educated about features , is crazy about new and futuristic designs , and
can SERIOUSLY go to extents , to stay " UNIQUE "

so this chevy , can have a niche market for those consumer , if they can bring the price down , this car would not be a bad alternative to CIVIC /ALTIS at all..

Yes the build quality was better, had better features too, if im not wrong the local 1000cc variant was somewhere 565,000 and CNG 595,000 ish Or may im quoting Cultuses Price, And maybe Joy CNG was avalible at Cultus Petrol pricing.

I went to check and buy one in almost 2nd quater of 2006, Some how i want to apreciate the NEXUS group for standing strong, and there still going, its almost a 5th or 6th product launch, since the initial launch of Chevrolet exclusive. 800cc.

They seriusly need to work on advertising and brand awarness. People need to know about other options, So that local production is started, and people get better and saffer optiions.

You too are very right but if think as a investor its not a wise idea, the market for unique in Pakistan is 1 in 1000s. more then 70% rural areas.

Corolla and Cultus being top sellers, Shows how stupid a consumer is here, all they care about is size. Im one of them, even i went for a gli saying paying a 1.5 lack is better then going for City, But i dont get a better car then that in this price range,

"lets not count mehran its the only option for the middle class to call something a car"

lol , i seriously exclude mehran from any analysis ,
yes you are right about the consumer behavior over here , its stupid ,

the key element i was trying to focus is:

if you do a critical analysis , of the sales stats.
you will find TOYOTA as the market leader here , in 1300+ cc category.

it is directly in competition with Honda.

honda looses the war in the 1300 cc category.
as more XLI's/ GLI's are sold , as compared to CITY

    but

MORE CIVICS are sold , as compared to ALTIS .
now here is the turning point i find ,

the buyers of 1.8 category , prefer CIVIC over Toyota.
so only if this Cruze could get inline with this competition , price wise , it would not be a tough job to get a chunk from the market.

    as technically.
    we can easily conclude that
    buyers of 1.8 category.

are feature hungry --- ( they prefer HONDA)
can afford expensive spare-parts---( HONDA is expensive as compared to toyota)

so Cruze can stand a chance ,only if the right pricing is done.
as 1.8 category buyers seem to care less about economy , maintenance , spare parts.

as presently , the expensive one - HONDA , is winning the 1.8 ground.

this is all i meant , actually.
men who reject to be ruled by the law of God , are ruled by the law of tyrants .
