Yes u r right, but one not declare a half tank full, when he knows that anyone can check that, especially when there are lot of stakeholders, and report will be submitted to SC.

Default Substituting CNG with imported fuel to cost $1 million per day

CNG phase-out plan to hurt forex reserves: IWCCI
Five Lakh tonnes of extra refined fuel needed to replace CNG
Substituting CNG with imported fuel to cost $1 million per day
Fertiliser production through coal to save 25 per cent gas, end crisis

    Islamabad: Dated: Nov 18
The Islamabad Women's Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IWCCI) on Sunday said phasing out Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) industry will put an additional strain of one million dollar per day on Pakistan?s forex reserves.

Calling for an out of the box solution, it said that policymakers should not test the limits of foreign exchange reserves at a time when country?s revenue generation ability has been compromised and it has to repay four billion dollar to IMF and ADB.

Domestic debt has crossed Rs 8 trillion marks while government has to pay back $3.4 billion in 2012-13, $3.43 billion in 2013-14 and $1.35 billion in 2014-15 to retire IMF?s loan, said President IWCCI Farida Rashid.

Speaking to a meeting, she said that replacing economical fuel like CNG with costly alternatives will require additional import of 2.5 lakh tonnes of diesel and same amount of petrol or 4.3 million barrels per annum.

Pakistan?s local crude production stands at 60,000 barrels per day while 30,3000 barrels are refined daily through six refineries, she informed.

President IWCCI Farida Rashid said that ARL is refining 45000 barrel per day, PRL 55000 bbl per day, NRL 65000 bbl, PARCO 100000 bbl, BYCO 35000 bbl, while ENAR is refining 3000 bbl per day.

Pakistan total consumption stands at 425000 bbl per day which is satisfied through importing 243000 bbl crude and 122000 bbl refined imports while rest is catered through local production.

Closing down CNG sector will require additional import of 13000 bbl per day of refined products costing around Rs 100 million per day, she said.

Farida Rashid said that decisions that can trigger multiple problems should be revisited and steps should be taken to boost local production by enhanced exploration, offering incentives and out of the resolution of disputes with private companies which have stopped gas extraction since long.

She said that plans to import natural gas from Iran and Turkmenistan should no longer remain on paper while line losses and theft of gas has touched mark of 19 per cent for the first time in history which merits an independent probe.

Government can also consider converting fertiliser sector on coal which will save 750mmcfd gas per day or 25 per cent of the total natural gas production to resolve gas crisis, she said.

best article, so using cng constantly we can save rs 100 m per day.

thanks to the governing bodies that have increased the fuel prices and compelled the public to use the alternate sources.

"The authorities of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources said that prices of petroleum products are less than $ 95 per barrel in international market, while in Pakistan prices of petroleum products are being charged by $ 120 per barrel."

despite making efforts to discourage ^this type of problem we would like to open a vast room for corruption to be benefited. wont the governing bodies think that alining the POL prices with international rates may have some of the +ive impact. or continue using cng and save

there is a hidden cost associated with the use the cng. is this cost is more than 100m daily? theft of car for cng kits, waiting to get cngs, todays blast at cng station etc and the cost of death and wounded ppl. definitely our policy makers priority is ca$h inflow$ at the cost of any thing.

But who is responsible for the domestic trade debt??

so now we have another crazy calculation to apply fixes to a system that is full of holes, What I fail to understand is that all our ministries, courts, associations etc etc.. think that CNG is what runs Pakistan.

What happened to large level heavy transport - Its really shameful that Pakistan has reduced to such a crap level that CNG and petroleum fuels are now dictating debt crises and transport medium. And can we have some more sane bodies instead of such Asim Hussain, this lady or any other body with SWAG ideas.

I agree with you. There are some people who are still talking sense.

Our genius public creates a lot of hue and cry about CNG prices. But amazingly nobody speaks about negligence in building dams and developing the cheapest source of energy. This is the very root cause of all this mayhem which we are observing now. That time is not far away when it will not be an energy crisis but a food crisis, then there will be no lines on CNG stations but probably there will be longer lines on "ration depots."

I am sorry to say all of us are to blame for this including our leaders. Everybody knows CNG is in limited availability. CNG should be used in the sectors where we have no other option for the time being. That is probably the "power sector." Have these geniuses of WCCI calculated the cost of imported diesel or furnance oil which will be used as a substitute in the power stations to generate electricity, while we are enjoying cheap CNG?

I am not against reducing price of CNG. But what "jurm" has been committed by all the farmers who use tractors or tube wells which run on diesel? What "jurm" has been committed by motorcycle owners who have no other option but to buy expensive petrol? What about people living in interior Baluchistan or in Northern Areas who have absolutely no access to any gas not even for cooking food?

We should accept the reality now, if we want us to survive. Gone are the days when people kept the stoves on just to save cost of a match. NG is precious and is scarce and is depleting. For your own sake, for your children's sake and for the sake of your country go "Hydel."

SC orders CNG to remain at the present rates till 5th December 2012, when they will have the next hearing in the CNG prices case.

Some more relief time for people, if the CNG pumps remain open.

    Lol @ relying on Auditor.

News flash my friends. PIA is audited with a 'unqualified' report every year. We all know what real losses and corruption levels are over there. Same for all other public, and private entities. Like Media funding, no audit report or disclosure shows kis nay kitna paisa khelaya.

Default For CNG lovers and Haters

Few facts about the CNG vs petrol use in cars

    why was CNG industry developed?
It was developed to reduce the dependence on foreign assistance in dollars and on fuel. to save the national exchequer money wastage, in billions of dollars on the import of fuel.. Also the war in Gulf in early 1990s ie desert storm, brought our country into a stand still situation with absolutely no petrol at all for some days. imagine that, if something goes wrong in the gulf right now,how will we get our fuel supplies??....

Why there is a sudden crisis of CNG??
This disaster actually started from 2006 on wards. when natural gas usage increased in different industries and also because due to power crisis, the industries and homes after 2008 started using natural gas in power generators,
instead of WAPDA source . Baluchistan law and order worsened this situation further thanks to external help. Instead of encouraging power generation by dams, the issue was made political by provinces objecting to dams, which according to engineers will barely have any effect on that particular province.. The last nail in the coffin was provided by provincial autonomy bill, according to which " its the discretion of provinces to provide their resources to the other province or to the center .....".

will abolishing CNG solve our power/gas crisis?
No, CNG uses about 8% of the available natural gas resources, the rest resources are used by Cement, fertilizers, textiles and in home industry.. so saving only 8% will not guarantee the error free supply to homes and industry.. Focus should be on power generation by building dams and of course instead of laughing on and making it an ego problem, (as our worthy ministers are doing )power generation from coal and water should be our top priority.

Is petrol good for cars performance rather than CNG?
Definitely, only if you can find quality fuel in Pakistan .. In threads abt petrol pumps dont forget to look for good petrol pumps. however, what happens practically in majority of petrol pumps is that they mix impurities into petrol to increase their profit.. This becomes a huge problem for the majority of Pakistani population living in rural areas or the frequent travelers. By using this low quality fuel we are making sure that the car knocking will one day result in heavy damage to our pockets.. and yea BTW i forgot to mention the frequent change/ repair of fuel pump/fuel tank and injectors in even new cars

Are our natural gas reserves depleting??
Of course like any other natural asset they are depleting. But our trivial fuel ( Petrol/Diesel)reserves are depleting even faster. The govt. is hardly trying any further to explore more gas reserves.. They rather are shutting down the available gas wells.. Pak-iran project has been pending now for years and years.. the taxes imposed on CNG since this regime came into power worth billion of Rupees in the name of development of Pak-iran project have vanished in the air, and we still are looking to IMF and ADB for further loans and assistance. All of us know about LPG scandal, that why this was brought here in Pakistan to be used in cars
    .
However we can explore more gas reserves seriously to divert most of the automotive industry on natural gas for our own autonomy.

    About future foreign investment??
Foreign companies like Landi renzo and many more had invested a lot in Pakistan before the ban on CNG Kits... This definitely gives a negative indication of our unstable economy and think tanks. Meaning no one will dare invest here in Pakistan after this and several other similar accidents in other sectors..

    About being a cheap source
There is no question in CNG being cheaper than petrol even after the repair costs..1300 cc EFI cars travel from 150 KM to 220 KM easily on long routes in about 500 Rs gas while a very good tuned 1300 cc car with an average of 15K/Litre will travel 200 KM in 1400 Rs
.. Having said that CNG is not for racing or drifting where it will always show poor results when compared with petrol.

Are the CNG association people doing the right thing??
They are doing a self burial ceremony by not providing the masses with CNG. what makes them sure that after 5 December the court will suddenly increase the price to 85. Even now they are getting 8 Rupees profit but they moan about the golden days when they were looting us, getting at least 30 Rs profit from a kg.laughing at us and having tea parties in the name of Awam key leeyey.
. Let them keep doing this and in future the CNG industry will definitely become a history..

Default CNG stations to shut indefinitely from tonight

OWNERS of CNG filling stations are going to shut their stations from 12am on Sunday against, what they called, the flawed price formula of gas, which is inflicting heavy losses on them.

The honourable court has not placed any restriction on closing down CNG stations, said Ghiyas Abdullah Paracha, chairman, Supreme Council of All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA).

He said that owners of CNG filling stations could not be forced to sell gas in loss. Therefore, it has been left to respective owners of the stations to do what they feel appropriate to avoid losses, he said.

However, it is learnt that CNG filling stations would be closed down on Sunday, six hour before mandatory weekly closure. There are numerous stations in the provincial metropolis that have already stopped sale of CNG or slowed down retail business on the pretext of technical issues.

Moreover, low pressure of gas has also helped the owners of CNG stations to restrict sale of gas.

Paracha said his association proposed three options to keep the CNG business viable and keep the masses from the impact of high price of the product.

The options have been designed in view of the directives of Supreme Court. He added that OGRA should accept any of the option to fix the prices immediately.

He said that most of the business was run on the basis of 30 per cent profit while those with transaction to the tune of billions could operate on reduced rates, he said, adding that new price mechanism had eroded profit margin of CNG stations.

According to the demand of APCNGA, CNG sector should be charged for gas same as other sectors are being charged, auditors have shown average sale of the CNG filling stations as 74,000 kg which is not more than 51,600 kg.

Acting upon the APCNGA formula will not only streamline CNG prices but bring uniformity among all critical sectors of the economy and provide much needed relief to the masses, he observed.

Uniform taxation and provision of gas on equal rates can help keep prices of CNG affordable across Pakistan, he said. Conspiracies are being hatched to destroy CNG sector which will hurt millions and sink investments of billions, he added.

Following decision of the apex court, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources and OGRA did not reduce any tax and conveniently diverted the entire burden on CNG sector which is unjust, he said.

On the other hand, Paracha said that nowhere in the world the production cost of any business was brought down to zero except Pakistan. CNG sector is paying GIDC up to Rs 300 mmbtu while industrial sector is giving Rs 50 for the same, he said. He said, ?We are being made to pay 500 per cent additional cess which if identical will help reduce gas price by Rs 13 per kg,? he maintained.

Meanwhile, All Pakistan CNG Association demanded of authorities concerned to announce uniform gas price for all CNG stations of the country.
