people who use Highbeams.. once day would suffer too bigtime. People who drive slow on fast lanes, remember one day a vehicle carryin ur son, dad might get late to hospital coz people like u. underaged driving will land u in bigtime trouble one day or the other.. And the Blue indication light on ur speedometer denotes "High Beams"

These are compulsory and standard safety equipments.. and they are only deployed when wearing a seatbelt.
Thus don't think airbags alone are of any use.
This is because without the seatbelt if the airbag is deployed, you will get a high speed blow from the deploying airbag - having a speed of over 100miles per hr.
Seatbelts hold u from nearing too much to the deploying bag and gives it enough time to inflate properly.

Otherwise 100 mph blow is, good enough to break your neck, jaw, send you in comma, neck disc displacement etc.

Thus now manufacturers have put a safety feature that airbags don't deploy at all if ur not wearing the belt.

And seatbelt is the primary lifesaver, however airbags definitely dampen the forces of a large impact, its an added protection which can be the difference between life and death.

Curtain and side airbags are extremely important in a side impact! Where seatbelt has got not much to do.

few of the people i know lost their lives in car crash... even though the airbags were deployed, but they weren't that of a life saver.. one frnd i know.. his altis was at around 75kmph [needle stuck at the point of impact] however he suffered severe head injuries... and later on died.

perhaps i m unable to make myself clear.. like seatbelt we know they definitely hold us back especially at the time of impact, can there be any possibility that airbags r merely "cosmetic safety features"

My friend was in his altis, a range Rover banged from the rear... the car hit the car ahead, sand witched between the two.

He walked away scratch less... just due to airbags or otherwise he would have got his face banged into the steering wheel...

And ur in a fools paradise that seatbelts don't loosen up, they also loose grip... and if the impact is too hard, no one can stop your face hitting the dash or the wheel...
This seatbelt too has its limits, its not a rope tied to ur seat.

If it won't loosen up at all up on impact, it would then break ur ribs itself..!

Energy needs to be dispersed somewhere and dampened...

That is because the local cars being produced do not have to follow a safety standard or even competition, They will make the most low cost product they can - hence such items like airbags etc can get kicked out.

In other countries where you see these items as common have a giant "DANDA" of which every manufacturer, repairsman, user is scared of. Then you have competition which gives you more of such features, in Pakistan all the manufacturers are tied together to keep the supply short - they do this to make more money with the least possible expense, and in Pakistan they can get away with such scams as "own aka premium" money - hence they get to play with you and you the consumer who does not say anything even if kicked or treated like prisoners by them. - In Pakistan there is no such danda as I mentioned.

btw - I have been inside a car which suffered huge damage, the airbag is not a luxury pillow situation, it blows hard and extremely hot and happens in less than a blink of an eye. It smacks you as you are thrown forward, the car I was in had seatbelt pretensioners too, when they detonate - you are pulled extremely super tight into the seat just a few microseconds before the airbag blows - It also helps to anchor the seat to the floor so you are in the most perfect position to be protected, Its quite a painful experience. But the trade off is that you dont hit your head on the steering or tear or sprain your neck or shoulder muscles and hence also protect bones.

These safety features are designed keeping road sensible speed limits as "control" and that the user of such a vehicle sane enough not to drive his car at 200 km/h into a lead filled concrete wall, The G-forces alone will rip up your internal organs.

What was the speed of impact? There are sensors which calculate deceleration and if above a certain level only then airbag is deployed

why do we need airbags? they add weight to the car and also makes the car expensive.

why power windows? they are far more convenient to be used as compared to manual windows and also weight less! but no, its a luxury and one shouldn't be enjoying such luxury in PAKISTAN

AC??? again a luxury not a need WTF

    POWER STEERING? LOL start eating!

OMG that guy was wearing seatbelts.. MUMMYDADDY SAALA.

    **** *** ********.

the assembly is junked and a new installed if the car is roadworthy. for passenger side that means a whole new dashboard, for seat placed airbags, new seats - airbags cannot be reused, and when when installed in new cars have an expiry of 10 or 15 years,

seatbelt pretensioners have detonators on their reel mechanisms that are under the load of a very very heavy spring, once that pretensioner unlock device detonates, the springs reel the belt in extremely tight.

Some very informative posts specially by Xulfiqar.
@poster airbags are a standard security feature and are as important as a steering wheels. Unfortunately where we live a life is not worth anything. So instead of saving a worthless thing, its better to save some bucks.

A member posted review of Suzuki Cultus VXL on pakwheels a couple of years ago and listed seatbelts along with AC/Power steering/power windows as luxuries. I was like WTF.

Actually, this same questioned was asked in my class of Engineering. I was surprised to see 80% of the class having no clue and was like "Yeah, how do you do that".
