Default What's new in India July/August.........

    MERCEDES-BENZ ACTROS TIPPER TRUCK...
Whats new in India JulyAugust -478767

DaimlerChrysler has been pondering about entering the Indian commercial vehicle segment for quite some time now. Finally, they took the plunge recently, with the Mercedes-Benz Actros tipper. The two variants they offer – the 4040K 6x4 and the 4840K 8x4. Powering the Actros is a 12,000cc six-cylinder behemoth that develops 394 horsepower at 1800 rpm and a staggering 190 kgm of torque at just 1080 revs – which DaimlerChrysler claims is the most powerful amongst tippers in India. The motor is paired to a 16-speed 'Telligent' gearbox that selects gears automatically, leaving the driver to concentrate on moving the mass.

    BAJAJ PULSAR DTS-FI MOTORBIKE.....
Whats new in India JulyAugust -478768

Whats new in India JulyAugust -478769

Bajaj's design brief for the DTS-Fi was to create a no-compromise machine for the performance motorcycle enthusiast. This, they have achieved. The motorcycle boasts a highly refined (low noise, no vibes, slick shifts and all) 220cc motor that makes a heady 20 bhp and 1.95 kgm of torque. And it is effortless, free-revving and can roll along at 50 kph in top gear should you feel the need. And return 50 kpl while you are doing that. It's almost like having your cake and eating it too.

Whats new in India JulyAugust -478772

Whats new in India JulyAugust -478773

The XETA i the photo iss the GLS mid range package with air-conditioning and power steering. The rest of the creature comforts give this version a miss. But the package was more than adequate to get under the skin.
But let's talk some numbers. 20kmpl on the highway and 12kmpl in the city rounds off to an astounding 14kmpl overall.

GM(India).....CHEVY AVEO, SRV, AVEO U-VA HATCHBACK..
Whats new in India JulyAugust -478774

The Aveo U-VA has been designed by Italdesign’s Giorgio Giugiaro. This five-door hatchback looks somewhat similar to the Hyundai Getz but according to company officials, the Aveo- U-VA has class-leading performance, courtesy a VGIS (Variable Geometry Intake System) powertrain. Although this has not been formally announced, we expect the engine to be a 1400cc unit

Whats new in India JulyAugust -478775

The Chevrolet Optra SRV is a hatchback version of the Optra sedan. Coupled with tweaks to the 1.6-litre VGIS engine, this will be one hot hatch and will be more expensive than all other hatchbacks in India. The front end has been restyled and doesn’t resemble the Optra which we know. The SRV has a leaner, sleeker look with all new raked back headlamps

Whats new in India JulyAugust -478776

The Aveo sedan has an interesting front, which is supposedly designed keeping in mind pedestrian safety in the event of an accident. Viewed from the side, the Aveo looks similar to the new Ford Fiesta, against which it will be positioned. There seems to be decent space in there and quality seemed up to mark. The car will be offered with a choice of either 1.4 and 1.6-litre petrol engines, while those who want diesel power will have to wait.

    MAHINDRA SCORPIO
Whats new in India JulyAugust -478777

Whats new in India JulyAugust -478778

Whats new in India JulyAugust -478779

The all-new Scorpio. And its forty-three new features. At first sight, the rear 'tower lamps' look striking. The bulbous tail lamps might not appeal to many at once - what with their wannabe cutesy touches straight out of the Toyota Aygo - but rest assured, they have an uncanny knack of growing on you.The engine, punchy and eager as ever, is the same 2609cc, 115PS common-rail diesel powerplant. The big change, though, is the five-stage multilink suspension setup at the rear.

    TOYOTA CAMRY
Whats new in India JulyAugust -478780

Whats new in India JulyAugust -478781

Whats new in India JulyAugust -478782

If the Camry's styling is a revelation, there are even more pleasant surprises waiting for you once you get inside. Everything is as you would expect on a more expensive European luxury car - elegant and fashionable in a mature, restrained way. The suits will love this. There's a six-CD, six-speaker, in-dash sound system (MP3 and WMA compatible), a multi-information display (which gives you details like the ambient temperature, average speed and cruising range etc.), dual-zone air-conditioning, and steering wheel-mounted control buttons for the stereo system and for the AC.

    MERCEDES-BENZ E-280
Whats new in India JulyAugust -478783

Whats new in India JulyAugust -478784

Whats new in India JulyAugust -478785

With a unique seven-speed automatic transmission and an even bigger than before compliment of electronic safety systems, the E280 is a veritable technological tour de force.

    CHINKARA 1.8S
Whats new in India JulyAugust -478786

Whats new in India JulyAugust -478787

The Chinkara is a new way of looking at getting the 'fun' back into driving. Everything from the colour of the body to the colour of the interior to the position of the pedal to the reach-and-rake of the steering to the length and position of the gearlever to the configuration of the suspension components (phew!) is finalised based on what you are most comfortable with. It is much like a bespoke velvet glove. That goes really fast. Your very own Ferrari FXX for about Rs 7.4 lakh. Why not?.

    Aridsoul......Chinkara Roadster specs for you.....

    CHINKARA 1.8S
Price: Rs 7.40 lakh (excluding taxes)
    Engine: 1816cc, 126PS @ 5000rpm, 135Nm @ 3000rpm
    Transmission: Five-speed manual
Brakes: Ventilated disc (front and rear)
    Tyres: Front - 205/50 R16, Rear - 225/50 R15 Goodyear F1 tubeless
    Performance: 6.7sec 0-100km/h, 187km/h, 13kmpl (all figures claimed)
    On sale in India: Now

For a vehicle that is practically handcrafted, build quality as well as finish are very good indeed. Fibreglass also ensures that the kerb weight of the Chinkara is kept to a lowly 620kg. That translates to a thunderous power-to-weight ratio of 187PS/tonne. The Chinkara will blast past 100km/h in a rapid 6.7 seconds and stay on the limit until it touches a very impressive 187km/h. Low weight also ensures that fuel consumption is kept on a tight leash. Enthusiastic driving will return close to 13 kilometres to a litre!!.

I am impressed by what Formanite Khan said, we can see the Patriotism of Nickatnite, and yes, I appreciate it, but, whynot show all of these cars to other countries too, Why only Pakistan, You think you guys are FAR FAR ahead of Pakistan but those Hondas and Chevrolets have been in Pakistan for a long time now.

I've never had a bad conversation with nickatnite, he's a decent guy and nothing like Kavs etc.

BTW the W211 mercedes e-classe only came in E280 guise in the indian market. everywhere else they killed off the 2.8L M112 engine in favour of the 240 & 320. I'm surprised to see that it comes with the 7-G gearbox though,... i was told it couldn't be mated to the M112 (unless india gets a bored out 240 to take the place of ALL V6's).

Very curious on this point & would love nick to clarify this for me.

    Storm.....

The E280 has replaced the E240 in India. With a displacement of 2997cc, the E280's V6 is 400cc bigger than the E240's. And where the older car had 167PS on tap, the E280's is a rather more respectable 234PS, which is available at 6300rpm. Compared with the E240's DOHC, 18-valve V6, the E280's DOHC, 24-valve V6 is definitely more advanced.

Prod the accelerator pedal and the three-litre V6 takes an instant to gather its forces, and blows you down the road after that. Nought to sixty comes up in 4.29 seconds, while zero to 100km/h takes 9.16 seconds. Given that a V8-powered E55 AMG will get from zero to 100km/h in less than six seconds, the E280 certainly isn't a runaway rocket. But to its credit, the E280's V6 stays extremely smooth all the way to its 6500rpm redline and never sounds stressed.

The car's anti-lock, electro-hydraulic braking system, with Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC is Mercedes-speak for brake-by-wire, which substitutes mechanical linkages with computer-controlled, electronic ones...), is beyond reproach. Braking hard from triple digit speeds, the E280 stopped in a straight line every single time, without either end threatening to break loose.

Another notable aspect of the E280 is its seven-speed automatic gearbox, which complements the powerful V6 very well. Called the 7G-TRONIC, this was the world's first seven-speed automatic when it was launched, back in 2003. (Interestingly enough, Toyota have developed an eight-speed automatic since then, which is fitted to the new Lexus LS460.) At that time, the 7G-TRONIC was only fitted to Mercedes-Benz's V8-powered cars, but has since then found its way to V6-powered cars like the E280 as well.

TATA Motors has been extremely secretive about its' 1-lakh car!!.This i know. That the ambitious Rs 1 lakh car will be manufactured from three-four places, including West Bengal and Uttaranchal states.

TATA Motors says the launch of the car would create a new paradigm in low-cost personal transport, carve out a new market segment and reach a broader base of the pyramid.

"The styling and designing of the car have been completed and prototypes are being tested in the plant. It will be a rear engine, 4-5 seat, four-door car with about a 30 horsepower engine," Tata said in the company's annual report for 2005-06. Estimated on the road release is Jan-Feb 2008.

Meanwhile, everybody is waiting for the new restyled Indica hatchback to be released on the road. The current model has been around for 7 years and is now selling at an unbelievable 2.78 lacs, with power steering , a/c and a 1400cc engine. There's a lot going on in the indian auto scene that's quite interesting and innnovative!!.Competition is fierce and intense and discounts and price baits are the norm here!!.
Age is a very high price to pay for maturity.
