you can make ECU of a car but do you have to demostrate it that it works then you will need a car too.

It depends on what the importance or weight of the project is. An ECU or an auto transmission controller will be too big a project to implement at this level I think. I made a small vehicle in my 5th semester, it was a three wheeled vehicle that used to follow a black line drawn on the floor. It was an easy project but lots of fun.

doing the ecu is a great idea in my opinion...and there is so much you can do within the ecu itself.

i recently visited a friend who has a dyno/tuning shop and he was telling me how simple and effortless it is to tune cars by simply pluging the unit and playing around with the software. im sure you can do something like that.
I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it..and so restriction of free thought and free speech is the most dangerous of all subversions.

it is simple if you know your way around, and if you have the original software saved incase.

well one is always on my mind.... a car health monitor... A microcontroller monitoring oil pressure, collant temperature, battery charging etc and displaying summary on an LCD...with alarms and buzzers... useful utility project

requires knowledge of microcontroller, some circuitry to convert analog signal levels from sensors to digital...once its with the controller...you can program it for anything

    good luck buddy

for fuel consumption meter... you'll be messing with 1 sensors/gauges... 1. fuel gauge 2. odometer

now the signal processing is tricky...coz all this is analog...both the fuel gauge and the odometer... you need to convert this to digital... and then a simple formula to calculate the milage.

challenge part is the analog to digital conversion... requires experimentation with voltage levels
