Default Inputs required to make up mind in buying used car

Hi everyone, I m looking to buy a used car. My range is from 450000 to 550000. I have done a little research and talked to friends n closed ones. This will b my first car. I can drive but am not so well informed and technical when it comes to used cars engine, performance, technicalities and comparison. I am thinking of buying either a Suzuki Cultus 2006-2007 VXR model, or Alto 2008-2010 model, or a Honda City 2001-2002 model. The ppl I hv talked to have high praises for City. However, my plan is to sell car in 2-3 years time and also I would like to spend the least on maintenance as I cannot afford regular expensive maintenance of car with expensive parts which may b the case with City and also in 2-3 years time I am not sure about its resale value as compared to Alto and Cultus as I can afford a relatively newer model of them.
Please suggest me keeping in view that I am a relatively new driver, and am planning to sell car in 2-3 years time and also would want a car with low maintenance cost. I also understand that may b Cultus n Alto may have lower maintenance cost compared to City but City may b more reliable n may not come up with that many regular problems. Please suggest. Your suggestions and recommendations are highly appreciated.

btw if u r not for the latest model, buy honda accord 1989 spend 200k on a new vtec engine and auto tranny.. body and tires.. u gona love it, other than that, u can try opt for Corolla EE90... Kia spectra isn't that bad of a choice too... civic 95 97 though u wont enjoy them too much..
people who use Highbeams.. once day would suffer too bigtime. People who drive slow on fast lanes, remember one day a vehicle carryin ur son, dad might get late to hospital coz people like u. underaged driving will land u in bigtime trouble one day or the other.. And the Blue indication light on ur speedometer denotes "High Beams"

I was the same boat as you a couple of years ago. I bought a Cultus 2005 with 57k on the odo as my first car. It's been a great experience. I've done regular maintenance, nothing more and the car has been super reliable. The odo is at 90k now.

If you want cheap maintenence Cultus is the way to go. Bumpers got scratched up? 1k each. Side mirrors, less than 500 rupees.

If you're learning how to drive or want a basic ride, Cultus works well. If you want a better all round ride and can afford it, then City.

i have kept all the 3 mentioned cars.
city is a king among the 3. but the problem is 2001 model is way to old and it will be a difficult job to find a city 2000 2001 in a prestine condition.. and if you buy a messed up Honda then you are gonna go through hell.. trust me its parts and maintenence is even more expensive then 2004 idsi and equilent to civic but if a good city then its hyper valve engine is aweessommeee and so its suspension which can take way more beating then today's plastic made cities.
cultus is a good choice too but if you have a small family then ill recommend you an alto.. it will be a newer model and also mileage on cng is very good..

    rest is your choice..
if you want to know more, you can ask me..

I had been thinking on the same lines. A newer Alto seems to me the wisest choice in hindsight.

    No experience of City.
Kept Alto for 2 years and Cultus (2007 non-EFi) for 5 years.
CULTUS: A well maintained Cultus is very good for long routes. Spacious and Comfortable. Parts are cheap. CNG mileage excellent. Driving pleasure is there.
However, I was really pissed with its built quality. Park the car on inclined plane and doors won't open as body was tilted. Door Locks went out of order every other week. A/C was just ok in city. Consumption on petrol was not good, although better than Alto.
    .
ALTO: Best thing about it was its built quality, way better than Cultus. Doors locks never went out of order. Body was strong, it really felt solid when doors were closed. A/C was much better than Cultus. Really good for local routes
However, car was not made for long routes with 4 adults on board as it was Not spacious, seats hard and uncomfortable. Road grip way less than Cultus. CNG mileage was very good, but very heavy on petrol.
