    Schumacher denies F1 comeback, again

Michael Schumacher has dealt another blow to undying speculation of a future return to the Formula One grid.

After receiving his 'Gold Medal' from the governing body at the FIA prize-giving last Friday, the newly retired German said: "I am not contemplating a comeback.

"I have a family and for the future I have promised to dedicate myself to them completely," the former Ferrari driver added.

Schumacher is keeping himself sharp with karting events and is to take a role as advisor to Jean Todt at Ferrari.

Alonso and Renault collect their trophies

    11 December 2006

The annual FIA Gala awards ceremony took place in Monaco on Friday evening and the major figures in world motorsport were there to see Fernando Alonso and Renault pick up the FIA Formula One World Championship trophies for the second year in succession.

“This is my last official event with Renault and after a fantastic relationship now is the perfect point to finish, being world champion again in both constructors’ and drivers’ championships,” said the McLaren-bound Alonso. “I feel very happy with my career with Renault and now I start a new challenge.”

Alonso was joined on stage by Renault team boss Flavio Briatore, who received the trophy for the constructors’ championship: “This is the best. I am pleased for Renault, I’m pleased for the team and especially for the sport because it was good to see a very intense fight with Ferrari. It was a great season.”

Other Formula One-related prizes went to FOM (Formula One Management) and the promoters of the Brazilian Grand Prix. FOM picked up the Television Trophy for their coverage of the Chinese Grand Prix. The prize is awarded to the host broadcaster voted by all the other host broadcasters for having produced the best coverage of an event during the season.

The Brazilian race promoters collected the Race Promoters’ Trophy, awarded to the promoter who has proved most helpful, in the most difficult conditions. They expertly handled an event which recorded a number of milestones in the sport. It will long be remembered as a race of champions, with stunning drives Alonso, seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher and race-winner Felipe Massa, who became Brazil’s first home winner in over ten years.

Well, you can never say for sure what the future is going to unfold. But, one thing is confirmed, we are going to have a great season. Who is going to take the place of Schumacher? I think we will see the start of Kimi vs Alonso rivalry.

I rank Massa higher than any other driver except for Alonso and Kimi. So we will probably see him winning some races as well.

well yea...nobody can predict wuts goin to happen in F1 and Motogp

well we have seen in the previous season MASSA winning a number of races in absolute fashion...i mean they way he used to win by having a lead of above 5 seconds in all races in every race he won was really appreciable...so now wonder if he does it again...

yaar wesay im a diehard fanboy of ALONSO and RENAULT but i personally think Renault have put their championship in danger by having a very new guy in place of alonso...ALONSO and RENAULT was a perfect match...now lets see wuts gona happen...this season would b very crucial and interesting...

Ferrari have a clear advantage having run on bridgestones for so many years while their main rivals Mclaren, Renault ( given the past couple of years) will have to adopt their cars after being on Michelins for so many years.
With those who made Ferrari so successful over the last decade slowly leaving the team one after another Ferrari will take the momentum they had from last season into the first part of 2007 but the new people will be severly tested come the second half of the season. I for one wouldnt be surprised if Alonso`s consistency makes him emerage at the top come the end of the season.
Come back, Luca Badoer, all is forgiven.

McLaren forced to wait on Alonso

Renault has now issued a definitive 'no' to McLaren's request for an early test release for World Champion Fernando Alonso.

The Spanish newspaper Diario As reports that the 25-year-old will not test for the Mercedes-powered team at Jerez this week, as Renault enforce the terms of his contract through to the last day of 2006.

"Barring an unlikely surprise, we will not see (Fernando) in a Silver Arrows until the presentation of the new car on 14 January in Valencia," the newspaper wrote on Tuesday.

As adds, however, that Alonso has visited McLaren's Woking factory several teams to chat with engineers and peruse the data relating to Bridgestone's new tyres.

Pedro de la Rosa has also helped his fellow Spaniard to acclimatise to McLaren's renowned driver simulator, while Alonso has seen the scale model of the MP4-22 in the wind tunnel.

    New Honda livery to surprise

Honda will 'surprise' the racing world with the livery for its 2007 Formula One car, according to Nick Fry.

The Japanese squad's Team Principal suggested to F1's official website that the unique marketing plan will help fill the void left by departing cigarette sponsor Lucky Strike.

Honda will start the new season without a title sponsor.

"You will not see a car covered in Honda logos, it will be something very different," he said.

The new livery is unlikely to be revealed until shortly before the Australian Grand Prix in March, Fry added.

"You could say that we will have two launches - one of the car and one of our new marketing concept," he revealed.

Honda's 'interim' car is presently testing in a striking black livery.

Time not right to leave Ferrari - Todt

Jean Todt says the departure of Michael Schumacher, Ross Brawn and Paolo Martinelli is not the 'right time' for him to also leave the Ferrari team.

"I cannot just abandon the ship during this period of transition,"
Todt, 60, revealed in an insightful interview with the French newspaper Le Figaro.

Todt, since 1993 the Team Principal, has been promoted to the role of CEO at the Maranello based sports carmaker and intends to withdraw from Formula One in the near future.

He admitted that his reputation in the F1 paddock for being prickly is deserved.

"Not everyone likes me, but that is partially my fault because I don't necessarily want to be liked by mediocre people," he said.

"I know I can be unpleasant."

One such person who does not appear on Todt's Christmas card list is Renault counterpart Flavio Briatore. Todt riled at Briatore's recent suggestion that Felipe Massa scored his Ferrari seat because he is managed by his son, Nicolas.

"Coming from him, it makes me laugh,
" Todt Sr said, "but I am not surprised.

"Felipe has demonstrated that he can handle the pressure of driving for a great team like Ferrari and being at Schumacher's side."

Red Bull plan new image for 2007

Red Bull Racing will adopt a new image for the 2007 season, team manager Jonathan Wheatley has revealed.

"When the pit garage doors open for the first time (in 2007) we want to make an impact, not just with the race car but with everything else about the team," he said.

Wheatley added that, coinciding with Adrian Newey's first effort - the RB3 - and the arrival of new driver Mark Webber, the Milton Keynes based squad is working on a 'new concept' for the appearance of the garage.

Red Bull will also revamp much of its pit equipment and has bought new trucks for 2007.

"It's all a major undertaking, almost like creating a brand new team," said Wheatley.

It is understood that Red Bull, owned by the Austrian billionaire and energy drink magnate Dietrich Mateschitz, is also restructuring the race and test team this winter.

Meanwhile, sister squad Toro Rosso's co-owner Gerhard Berger said this week that the 2007 single seater will be painted in the same livery as this year's STR1.

    Klien denies eyeing Barrichello's seat

Christian Klien has rejected speculation that his new Honda contract includes a clause allowing him to step into a race cockpit in 2008.

It is rumoured in Austria that the 24-year-old only signed to become a test driver next year because Rubens Barrichello is nearing retirement, but Klien said: "I don't have any clauses like that."

Referring also to Red Bull's David Coulthard, he told the Austrian broadcaster ORF: "Also last year I had an older team colleague and I can tell you they can also drive fast!"

Klien was in Vienna this week to receive the keys to his new company car - a 300hp Honda Legend.

He pointed out that countryman Alex Wurz's return to the Grand Prix grid next year proves that becoming a test driver is not the end of an F1 racing career.

In a press conference attended by motorline.
    Cliquez ici...
cc, however, Klien baulked at the suggestion that - like Wurz - he might have to wait six years before rolling onto the grid again.

"2013?" Klien exclaimed. "I'm not going to wait for that long!"

He also said he had spotted Honda's new car at the Brackley factory, and revealed that it notably features 'more aggressive but smaller' side pods.

Ferrari to debut 2007 car on 16 January

Ferrari will debut its car for the 2007 season at the Jerez circuit on 16 January, according to reports.

The Swiss newspaper Blick claims that the rollout of the red single seater in Spain will coincide with the debut of championship challenger Renault's new car.

It is not, however, known when Ferrari will hold its official launch.

Meanwhile, Renault Team Principal Flavio Briatore this week confirmed reports that said Fernando Alonso would not secure an early release to test for the McLaren team at Jerez.

The Italian contradicted his McLaren counterparts' suggestions that they requested Alonso be allowed to test before his contract expires on New Year's Eve.

"They should talk to Renault and not journalists,"
Briatore is quoted as saying by La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"I have not thought about it, but I don't think it's that important for the fate of the world. I hope Fernando has a nice Christmas and a relaxing winter, because in the Spring we are going to beat him."

Alonso to test for McLaren today (updated)

Fernando Alonso travelled to southern Spain last night ahead of his surprise test debut for McLaren today.

As.com claims that Renault boss Flavio Briatore gave the green light for a contract reprieve at lunchtime on Thursday, allowing the double World Champion to drive an unbranded MP4-21 on the last day of 2006 testing.

Alonso takes over Pedro de la Rosa's test car, which set the fastest lap of the nineteen runners on day two.

The publication says Alonso spoke personally with Briatore about the issue at the FIA awards last Friday, after they received their trophies for winning the drivers' and constructors' titles this year.

Alonso's personal manager, Luis Garc*a-Abad, subsequently met with Briatore in London this week, ahead of a last-minute decision to allow the driver to test. Alonso had checked into the nearby Montecastillo Hotel on Thursday without knowing if he would test.

Alonso's old Renault team-mate Jarno Trulli, meanwhile, warned the reigning champion to expect a tough season in 2007.

"Even a champion cannot win without a good car, and at the moment McLaren are behind Renault and Ferrari."

Meanwhile, Michael Andretti arrived at the Jerez circuit on Thursday to prepare for his son's F1 test debut.

Impressive IndyCar rookie Marco Andretti, 19, will test for Honda today, and while team chiefs have played down the significance of his debut, Nick Fry said yesterday: "Clearly if he enjoys himself and we think there's a spark there, there's the opportunity to do more."

Andretti was also spotted behind the spectator fences at the Spanish test venue in conversation with Honda's sporting director Gil de Ferran, who retains close ties with the American race scene.
