There is considerable time left in the start of the season but there are a lot of news coming through. So, just like last time we had a single thread about F1 2006 season I am starting this thread for the 2007 Season. This will allow all of us to discuss things at one place.

My request to all the F1 fans, please post F1 2007 related stuff here.

    Italian press condemn WMSC decision

    ''Political sentence, suspect formula''
    27/07/07 11:45

The Italian press were united on Friday in their condemnation of the decision by Formula One's governing body to clear McLaren of any wrongdoing in the Ferrari spying row.

An extraordinary hearing of the FIA's World Motor Sports Council ruled there was no evidence that the British team had benefited from the confidential Ferrari documents found in the possession of their chief designer.

"Ferrari mocked," headlined the Gazzetta dello Sport. "Incredible decision by the FIA. McLaren found guilty but go punished."

"A shock verdict. The FIA recognise the fact that McLaren violated the sporting conduct code by having in their possession confidential Ferrari documents, but they are absolved. So spying is not shameful."

"A scandalous verdict and freedom to spy," said the Gazzetta's front page editorial.

"Imagine you have had your car stolen and then it is found in the garden of a man who lives near you. You inform the police and they verify the theft. But because the thief shows that he hasn't used the car, he's cleared of any crime. That is exactly what happened to Ferrari.

"It's a scandal, the latest in the world of sport which every now and again gives us another reason to doubt it, and that continues to use different measures to address similar situations, enough to create an ethical emergency that destroys and neglects."

La Repubblica newspaper said McLaren escaped a points deduction as the FIA were unwilling to interfere with the sport which is enjoying a rise in popularity following the arrival on the scene of McLaren's exciting British driver Lewis Hamilton.

Hamilton heads the drivers' standings on 70 points, two clear of McLaren team-mate and world champion Fernando Alonso, with Ferrari duo Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen in third and fourth with 59 and 52 respectively.

McLaren also top the constructor standings, with 138 points, 27 clear of Ferrari.

"Political sentence, suspect formula," wrote La Repubblica. "McLaren absolved. How can it be?. That team had 780 pages of Ferrari documents showing completed projects and they are cleared.

"At first sight the decision is incomprehensible, but the FIA's magnanimity can be easily explained.

This verdict is worse than the doping one, that allowed both Shoaib and Asif to play cricket.

Ferrari mulling next move in McLaren spy row

''We are reflecting on what to do'' - Todt
    27/07/07 14:41

Ferrari President Luca Montezemolo said on Friday his team had not accepted defeat in the McLaren spying row.

In Paris on Thursday the FIA, Formula One's governing body, cleared McLaren of any wrongdoing, ruling there was not enough evidence to suggest the British team had benefited from confidential Ferrari documents which ended up in the hands of their chief designer, Mike Coughlan.

But Montezemolo insisted the fight would continue, promising fans of the Italian outfit they would not lie down.

"I want to say to the fans from all over the world who have been contacting Ferrari, offended by the decision taken in Paris yesterday, that they should remain calm because this story will not end here," he was quoted as saying by Italian news agency ANSA.

Earlier on Friday, Ferrari's executive director Jean Todt, said the team were mulling their next move.

"We are reflecting on what to do after the incomprehensible and grave decision made in Paris," said the Frenchman. "It's difficult to understand that one who is deemed to be guilty goes unpunished.
    "

Despite clearing them, the FIA warned that if in the future McLaren were found to have used the information passed on to Coughlan they risked being kicked out of Formula One for the 2007 and 2008 season.

The spying affair erupted after Coughlan was caught in possession of a 780-page Ferrari dossier - allegedly given to him by Ferrari engineer Nigel Stepney - following a search of his home by High Court-appointed officials.

McLaren team boss Ron Dennis had always strenuously denied that anyone at his team other than Coughlan had set eyes on the dossier.

Ferrari have taken up legal action against Stepney through the Italian justice system.

    Formula One 2008 schedule announced

18 events for the 2008 season
    27/07/07 15:59

The Australian Grand Prix will kick off the 2008 season, contrary to reports in recent weeks that Bahrain would get the nod for the curtain-raiser.

The FIA today unveiled the schedule for next year with new events at Valencia and Singapore included on the schedule as expected, while the US no longer has an event following the failure of a new agreement between Formula One and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Magny Cours remains on the schedule despite expectations earlier in the year that there would be no French event next year, before a return in 2009 at a possible new venue.

Suzuka officials had hoped that it would host the Japanese event next year after losing the race to Fuji this year, but Fuji again is included on the calendar.

Almost everyone in Pakistan is doing corruption to the extent they can. Our leaders are doing at the level they can do. So why should we complain?

^^ treat or no treat i think ferrari will win it anyway but still look at what mlaren did....
they couldnt finish, blown engines, tyre problems, the chassis didnt match the aerodynamics & you name it they had it last season then all of a sudden they got the Ferrari reliability.. come on its like magic,
    these things dont just happen.
i would like to see mclaren penalised for breaching the code but if they get banned then there will be no fun in this season atleast...

Na serious there wont be any fun left in this season then as Ferrari's only rival is Mclaren at the moment. and also i would love to see Ferrari beat the hell out of Mclaren despite that mclaren have Ferrari tech..

Well, one can't really be sure about that. As you know Mclaren is a British team and has had a good reputation unitl now. I don't think they'll punish them.

Secondly, I would want Ferrari B (Mclaren Mercedes Ferrari)team to stay in the competition.

I am not a Mclaren fan nor am I a fan of Ferrari or any other F1 team. I like drivers whether they drive for BMW or for Williams or Ferrari or any other team for that matter.

I`m sorry if it`s so hard for some to comprehend what i meant by " the best driver of HIS generation" The point being that Schumacher and Alonso are from different generations.

As for statistics, they mean very little to me, and are often misleading. If that`s what makes someone great in your books then good for you, cause if Alonso wins this year`s world title he will join a very elite group who have won back to back titles with different teams. The name of Juan Manuel Fangio comes to mind. To join him, Wow!! How`s that for a statistic? Or one of a handful of drivers to win three world titles on the trot. I believe only Fangio and Schumacher have managed that before.

Alonso`s career can only be compared to any driver before him once he hangs up his helmet and calls it a day. Whatever he has achieved so far cannot be compared to the established F1 greats. You can talk numbers after he is finished with F1.

Sunial Gavaskar has I dont know 10 thousand plus Test runs and 30 odd test Hundreds. Does that make him a better batsman than Viv Richards ? If i go by stats sure, but to me No! Not in a million years. Kapil Dev has more test wickets than Imran Khan or Wasim Akram. Was he a better bowler than those two? Well, statistics say that he was. Just as they suggest Sourav Ganguly is a better batsman than either Inzaman Ul Hag or Saeed Anwar.

Lastly FIA has made a mockery of the sport once again. It`s not the first time they have done it nor will it be the last time. If they had to call a meeting of the FIA world body council then they must have had hard facts, but to call Mclaren and then let them go without punishment for " insufficient" evidence is plain crazy! Reminds me of 1999 when both Ferraris were expelled from the Malaysian GP because their barge boards were found not to be in accordance with FIA regulations and Mika Hakkinen crowned world champion, only for the same barge boards to be *Magically* found according to FIA regulations a week or so latter, and the championship allowed to carry to the last race in Japan.
Come back, Luca Badoer, all is forgiven.

    @all

I guess we all agree to disagree.

Lets talk about the proposed rules.

    1. Similar Chassis (not likely but proposed)
    2. Smaller Engines (tiny engines)
    3. MAD (Movable Aerodynamic Devices)
    4. Slick Tyres
    5. Turbos.

Please have your say on these proposals.
