Almost everyone in Pakistan is doing corruption to the extent they can. Our leaders are doing at the level they can do. So why should we complain?

Ah comon! Didn't you see the last race? I admit it is not as exciting as Formula1 obviously but this season we might see some good racing from team Pakistan. I for one say yesterday a Pakistani car defending its position against a German car. That was fantastic to watch.

    Ferrari announce new Massa contract

Remaining with Ferrari until the end of 2010
    16/10/07 124

In a short statement this morning, the Ferrari squad announced that Felipe Massa will remain with the team until the end of the 2010 season. His existing deal was set to expire at the end of the 2008 season.

The news puts an end to rumours that the Brazilian could move to Toyota next season as a replacement for Ralf Schumacher.

Massa is heading to the season finale and his home event in Brazil this weekend fourth in the championship and aiming to repeat his 2006 Interlagos success.

Kimi Raikkonen is under contract until the end of the 2009 season, as announced last year at Monza.

The following is a statement from Ferrari.

"Ferrari announces that it has extended its agreement with the driver Felipe Massa through to the end of the 2010 racing season.

"Massa has been contracted to the Scuderia since 2001. To date, he has taken part in 34 Grand Prix for the team. He has won five times, had sixteen podium places and finished 25 times in the points. He has secured eight pole positions and the same number of race fastest laps, with a total of 166 points scored."

A1GP cars to be 'based on' Ferrari F2007

''A1GP will be taken very seriously'' - Teixeira
    16/10/07 09:39

The cars of the next A1GP series will reportedly be 'based on' the 2007 Ferrari that was this year raced in formula one by Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa.

It was announced last week that Ferrari will supply engines and design consultancy to the so-called World Cup of Motorsport for six years beginning next season.

A report of the news agency Reuters says the 2008-2009 A1 car is "expected to be based on this year's F2007 Formula One racer but built by another company."

Series boss Tony Teixeira, who has been linked with the possible buyout of Ferrari-powered F1 team Toro Rosso, suggests that the Ferrari deal is designed to bolster the series' status.

"If Ferrari can deliver a 650-700 horse power car that is a few seconds off F1 pace, then you will want to drive for your country because you know you are driving the best equipment available," he said.

"A1GP will be taken very seriously as a true global motor racing series.

"For A1, I think the credibility issue is totally resolved and put to rest. Ferrari would not do anything to jeopardise its brand," Teixeira added.

    Alonso faces minor engine disadvantage
Title rivals in Brazil with fresh V8 power
    16/10/07 08:51

Lewis Hamilton could enjoy a potential horse power advantage over his team-mate and championship rival Fernando Alonso as the 2007 season climaxes in Brazil this weekend.

The 22-year-old British rookie not only has a four-point advantage over the Spaniard, but a brand new Mercedes-Benz engine will be fitted to his single seater at the Interlagos circuit ahead of free practice on Saturday.

Alonso, on the other hand, must again use the engine he raced to second place in Shanghai two weeks ago in qualifying and the Grand Prix in Brazil, according to the rules.

Both Ferrari contenders are also due for new engines in Brazil, having reached the end of the mandatory two-race cycle in China.

The new 'engine freeze' rules for 2007, however, prevents Hamilton's crew - and the Ferrari team - from rolling out special aggressive developments for the championship decider, but the situation is a significant advantage for them over Alonso.
    Cliquez ici...

Because Brazil is the final race of the season, the necessary 'life' of a new engine is approximately halved, from 1000km to about 500km.

"It means that we can try to increase the severity of usage of the engine, for example by running higher revs," said Ferrari's head of track engineering (engine), Mattia Binotto.

"We can also run it at higher temperatures," he said ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix.

The German newspaper TZ, meanwhile, claims that the Mercedes-Benz horse power advantage for Hamilton in Brazil, compared with Alonso, will be about 10 horse power.

    @charterali
I am also hoping for a dirty race but I don't think something dirty will be done by any of the three contenders but it may be the teams for sure specially McLaren.

    Massa renewal leaves pundits puzzled
    Alonso to Ferrari theories scuppered
    17/10/07 08:58

The news on Tuesday of Felipe Massa's new Ferrari contract was met by almost universal surprise in F1 circles.

The 26-year-old Brazilian has driven relatively well and won three Grand Prix this year, but it had been strongly rumoured that Fernando Alonso was edging towards a Ferrari deal for 2009 amid high level talks with the Italian marque's President Luca di Montezemolo.

"Everyone here is astonished," Jayme Brito, a producer with Brazil's national TV Globo network, was quoted as responding to the news by the Independent newspaper.

He added: "It is not the proper time for such a thing, and there is a strong suspicion that it may be a smokescreen for other things."

One such theory is that there may be more than meets the eye to Tuesday's 81-word Ferrari press release.

For example, while the team announced that Massa's agreement has been extended through to the end of 2010, it was not specifically made clear that his role must always be as a race driver.

The second sentence of the statement begins with the information that 'Felipe has been contracted to the Scuderia since 2001', but Massa only made his Grand Prix debut in 2002 - for the Ferrari-powered team Sauber.

He was then Ferrari's test driver in 2003, before returning to Sauber for two more years.
    Cliquez ici...
Massa only raced a Ferrari for the first time in 2006.

Much has also been made of the tense political situation at Ferrari this year, with Montezemolo supposedly pushing for Ross Brawn to succeed Jean Todt as team boss in preparation for a new era that involves Alonso in the cockpit.

Todt, on the other hand, has previously and publicly lobbied against signing Alonso, while his son Nicolas is Massa's manager.

Spanish Diario As journalist Carlos Miquel on Wednesday concurred that Massa's re-signing through to 2010 is a more than 81-word story.

"The only thing that is for sure is that Raikkonen is now in a weaker position with regards to the possible arrival of Alonso in 2009," he wrote.

Raikkonen's current contract runs until the end of the 2009 season, with Massa's new deal expiring a year later. Massa's previous deal for 2007 and 2008 was announced at Monza last year.

Singapore moves ahead with night race plans
Italian lighting firm Valerio Maioli contracted
    16/10/07 17:22

Plans for the first ever Formula One night race in Singapore have taken a crucial step forward.

The new race's promoter said on Tuesday that it had contracted an Italian company, Valerio Maioli, to supply the bespoke lighting system for the event in September next year.

The decision follows successful lighting tests at Indianapolis earlier this year, and more comprehensive subsequent two-day trials at Bernie Ecclestone's Paul Ricard circuit in France, it was revealed in a news conference.
    Cliquez ici...

1500 lights will illuminate the circuit so that it is nearly four times brighter than a typical sports stadium, while 24 generators will ensure that the lights will not fail, it was explained.

"Each power generator can power the whole race in the event of failure," said Valerio Maioli, the lighting company's chief.

The system will be ready to be tested in early January.

Alonso favourite for the title - Briatore
''For me the favourite is still Fernando''

Fernando Alonso is favourite to win his battle with Lewis Hamilton for World Drivers Championship title in Brazil this weekend according to Renault chief Flavio Briatore.

The two McLaren drivers are first and second in the standings going into Sunday's closing Grand Prix at Interlagos with Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen also in with an outside chance.

But Briatore believes that reigning champion Alonso's greater experience will see him edge past his team-mate to make it three world titles in a row for the Spaniard.

"The guy at the front has the most pressure. For me the favourite is still Fernando," Briatore told the Daily Mirror. "He has the experience, he has been here before, and he has always been fast in Brazil, a difficult track."

Briatore, Alonso's former boss, said Hamilton would be the most nervous driver, having been top of the standings since May.

The Italian also said that he would be happy to welcome back Alonso to Renault at the end of the year if he decides to leave McLaren and is looking to sign up with another team.

"I think he will be given fair treatment and he has the mental strength to do the job," the Italian, who ironically has previously stated that Alonso should have number one status, said. "If he is not contracted to another team we would be happy to have him back at Renault."

    Raikkonen fully-focused on the finale
Brazilian GP - Ferrari - Preview

The odds are stacked against him, but Kimi Raikkonen could be crowned as the 2007 Formula One World Champion on Sunday in Brazil.

The Ferrari driver, who celebrates his 28th birthday today in Sao Paulo, is seven points behind championship leader Lewis Hamilton and three behind Fernando Alonso and is hoping to celebrate the ultimate prize rather than his birthday.

Felipe Massa won his home event in style last year and is hoping that his team-mate's title aspirations will not come into play on Sunday afternoon. Massa is out of championship contention, but looking to add to his three wins secured so far this year.

    Kimi Raikkonen

"I have no special plans to celebrate: It is better just to focus on the race weekend. I just hope for one present for my birthday and I hope to receive it after the race on Sunday afternoon."
